Trying to get my mind off of the Astros/Cards series, I found something on one of the NASCAR news sites I regularly go to. It surprised me that one of the stories was that alot of teams are endorsing George W. Bush. It wasn't the candidate that shocked me, it was that they're getting involved in politics. I don't think sports and politics should ever mix (yeah, yeah, I know you guys don't consider NASCAR a sport). My favorite driver, Rusty Wallace, has also endorsed the President. The Bush campaign scheduled two days of campaigning around NASCAR. Please, get out of sports politicians, I beg you. Link
The only thing that goes left in NASCAR are the cars. Who tried to form that program? Doesn't sound like a very wise decision, trying to draw from a base that is probably the most republican out of any sport. I don't care who does it, politics in my mind don't have a place in sports.
Griffinfan- Like BigTexxx mentioned I wish they would take politics out of all forms of general entertainment (I do think politics is a part of comedy, but I think in general comedians will make fun of either party not just bash/support one of them). I know I was one of the first people to complain in January 2003 I went to a Bon Jovi concert and had to listen Jon complaining (thankfully many shared my view so I wasn't the only one booing). NASCAR dad's was a pretty big effort earlier this year but I have no idea who funded it for the democrats. They had big setups at a few of the and I beleive they were trying to get the targeted middle class who was at the races to register and see there point of view.
I think it is inevitable that the NASCAR guys would support the GOP. They are into burning lots of fossil fuels like the GOP
Not always. Lot of union members who are definetely liberal are fans. I think the biggest problem is it is tough to ID a NASCAR fan. In the past you've thought Red neck, but they've done studies saying the median income is over $70k. So maybe teh liberals thought thye could go there and pick up some of the blue collar workers?
