I have a friend who is a nanny that got her job through one of those locater sites about 8 years ago. She's been with the same family ever since. She does light housekeeping and stuff, but she also lives in. From her experience, don't restrict yourself to people that live nearby (she moved from Kansas to DC to be a nanny), make sure you spend a lot of time talking to them and their references, and if the service doesn't do it, pay for a background check.
That sounds like good advice, but I think my wife is pretty adament that when we get home for the day, we want the house to ourselves. In other words, a live in doesn't sound like the way we want to go. As for due dates and sex. The actual due date is August 9, but he will probably be induced in the latter part of July (because mommy isn't a spring chicken either). His first and middle name: Peter Michael We'll call him "Pete"---my dad's nickname (he passed away a few years ago). He's already about almost five pounds (so says the high risk OB and her super-duper sono), so he won't be a little baby. My wife will stay home for a month or so after, but things are moving REAL quick.
Oh wow, he will be here soon! Good luck to you guys! I would be extremely nervous in regards to who would watch my baby as well. I could not have a live in nanny/AuPair either. (Unless we had a garage apartment). Also, I think it is border line child abuse to put a newborn baby in day care. It is horrible and sad to say the least. (But I am also from a country where we have almost two years paid child leave for both the moms and dads. Child care for kids under one year does not exist.)
