I realize he has been suggested previously, but humor me for a moment. let's presume the following:

    Rockets sign:
Brent Barry for BE (bi-annual exception) -- $1.9m/yr for 2 years
Carl Landry for portion of MLE ($3.5m/yr for 3 years with a team option for the 4th)
Dikembe Mutumbo for LLE -- $1m a year (I may be wrong, as we may have his bird rights or something to that effect in this case -- please fill me in if you know something I don't)

This leaves a depth chart of the following:

    alston / jackson / francis / brooks
tmac / barry / head (please trade him, btw)
    shane / novak / greene
    scola / landry / hayes
    yao / dikembe / dorsey

now, let's just assume we find out in summer league that greene will not be able to help us this year. we already know novak can not defend the 3s in the nba.

would the around $2.4m left of the MLE be enough to sign nachbar? considering jeff is no longer here, so he has a more offensive coach -- and his buddy yao to lure him here. I realize he isn't the best defender or the best option, but he would add depth and bring another shooter to one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the league. he can also attack the basket to a fault. this would shore up everything into the trade deadline where we know morey's intent is to go after that elusive third scorer. thoughts?

I Love Boki. When he almost got into a fight with Karl Malone, that moment alone will make him always a Rocket to me.

I think we should brong him back to slap around Utah's current big men :).

He can't defend, but I would think the added firepower would more than make up for it.

He's come in to his own in New Jersey. I'd take him back, most definitely

    - The Bi-Annual Exception is the LLE, for what that's worth.

    - We can re-sign Dikembe without dipping into the MLE or LLE.

    - The MLE is only 5.6 so if Landry takes 3.5 then that only leaves 2.1 for Nachbar, which is less than he was making before (2.4). He said he values contract length over contract amount, but that is probably too low.

That said, I suggested in the random trade thread that we look at Nachbar, so I definitely think he could help. But I'd really only look at him late in free agency if things don't go our way with other targets.

He is better than Novak, even though Steve is a better shooter, Boki is better at slashing and cutting......

I would love to have Boki back.

k that clears up a lot, thanks :)

if I could go back, I would probably shorten the length of landry's contract that I initially suggested (that would of course offer him more money, however which may make the whole thing null and void...blah). I think it's more likely that they lock him up for 2 years with a team option for a third considering the 2010 cap management they've been doing lately.

I say "No". We just do not have enough spots for him unless we trade Luther Head for him, then I would be happy. I prefer to keep Harris if there is a spot after signing Barry.

We will have 16 players in that situation. Boki is not bad but I'm not convinced that we need him.

Edit: Adding Barry will make him the 16th player with a guaranteed contract,if Head leaves for another guaranteed contract, another trade will have to be made to fit in Harris or Boki. All this would of course be dependent on Deke and Landry re-signing with the team.

You do know that he improved considerably after his stint with the Rockets, right? So actually, we haven't really been there and done that.

I wouldn't mind having Boki back. At least he's had some success in the slashing department, unlike some of our guards. Plus, I like his mean streak.

Boki would be a nice fit, I think I would look at Barry first (that is what they are doing) then maybe give Boki a look

Also if we do sign Brent but make trades if might make sense to look at Nachbar

yes even though he has played more productively and more years elsewhere what he did in punking Karla will always make him a rocket in my eyes.

getting boki would be a good addition to the team both on and off the court. he was good friends with yao.

    alston/jackson/francis/brooks
    tmac/(barry please!)/francis/head/greene
    shane/boki/novak/greene
    scola/landry/hayes/dorsey
    yao/deke/scola/dorsey

if we are able to get retain landry and deke and sign barry and boki we'll have a very versatile lineup and could play both uptempo and a slow game if needed. the line up possibilities are many.

but as CCR said it probably wont happen seeing how he got paid more now in NJ than what we could offer now but I think he'll sign elsewhere just not here.

Don't we have some trade exceptions?

I wonder if we could use a TE, or Head coupled with a guy like Novak to get him via sign and trade.

I really don't know much about his status in NJ.

I don't love him as a player even now, but he has more value imo than a guy like Novak who just isn't good at anything except shooting. Nachbar would be at least a competent wing player to take some minutes while Greene is developing.
