For me to like a movie, it has to be funny, bad-ass, or take me on a ride of emotions. Spiderman met none of these requirements. It was stupid, borderline ridiculous. The original Batman remains the only comic-book movie I have truly enjoyed. "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" I think the sheer amount of great movies I have seen has also damped the lesser movies. For example, I chuckled at the fight scenes in Spiderman. When compared to those of "Brotherhood of the Wolf", or "The Matrix", they are laughable. A movie also has an intrinsic "feel" to it. A sort of "coolness". I think its safe to say that Brotherhood of the Wolf is a "cool" movie. The atmostphere, and feel of the movie was straight up badass. Same for Matrix, Fight Club, and numerous others. Oher films have epic qualities. LOTR, Braveheart, Gladiator, etc... I will conclude this long tirade by mentioning that I am looking forward to hopefully great films in Star Wars Episode II, The Two Towers, and The Matrix II.

    you know,

I agree with a lot of what the douche said...

I thought the movie was fun, but it really wasn't all that great, IMO.

I think you have to be a long time Spidey fan in order to really really enjoy the movie.

9/11 is one reason why the movie did not pack the punch it was gonna have.
Remember the Helicopter scene between the Twin towers? It was scraped hopefully the dvd will have all the punch it could not show at the theatres.
Think about it if Sam Raimi would have had it his way this movie would have been close to an R

The only reason you don't like it is because its so popular.

You should probably be prepared to be disappointed. About 80% of the early reviews I have seen have trashed it...boring action, lame dialogue (what a shocker), and bad acting from everyone except Ewan seems to be the consensus.

Rocketblast- Thats quite an attitude from a somebody that doesn't post much.

TB- That could be... But if the DVD is awesome, its not going to change how I feel. First impressions mean alot.

fba34- There were a LOT of scenes like that one IMO. Lots of bad lines.

Pued- I expected a response like that. You are so cool. Your BBS dick is sooo big.

rimbaud- I am expecting it to be bad. But notice that I said HOPEFULLY great films. I'm holding out hope until I actually see it.

Well I see where you're coming from Nomar, even though I really enjoyed it. I thought it was just short of the first Batman, as far as big comic book movies go. Course I didn't have high expectations for it going in and wasn't comparing it to other movies when I watched it. I don't see how they could've done a much better job for a first movie.

As far as Star Wars ... I don't know how good it'll be, but it can hardly be any worse than the Phantom Menace.

What? Almost all of the reviews have it 3 + stars... a couple even gave it four. Almost every single reviewer has labeled it the best super hero movie ever.

It was the best movie ever. I don't know how you can not see that. :D

Add me to that list. I posted in the Spiderman thread how I thought the acting was terrible and the special effects were too cartoonlike. I was not impressed at all.

I saw spiderman last night. The goblin costume was atrocious, but other than that the movie reminded me of what a good story spiderman is. The plot twists and the character interaction was well done. Even in the Goblin's death you feel for his plight. The effects were very realistic. Especially swinging through the city. That was damn cool. Spiderman came off as pretty cool to me. The ending was the best part of the movie. It gave you a respect that you can carry over to the character from here on out. The complexity of Spiderman's inadequacies and life kept me believing the whole way though.

I feel so sorry for you five - er, six. :D ;)

As far as Star Wars goes - I've read 'reviews' from lots of people that have seen advanced screenings. They all say it was better than Episode 1, and the second half in particular is pretty cool.

Still don't think, in terms of numbers, it will beat Spiderman tho.

I didn't think the movie sucked...so take me off the list...

I just think i would have enjoyed it a WHOLE lot more if I were already a fan of the comic book.
