Every day that passes by, I am liking the idea of trading for Derek Fisher more and more. I have several reasons that I like him, but most importantly, I cant think of any reasons why we shouldnt get him. First and foremost, Fisher is the perfect fit for the what the Rox need and want. He is the perfect role player. Fisher is money from outside with a career 37% three point percentage. Three point shooting will be important for the Rox perimeter players. Everybody knows why, so I am not going to get into explaining that issue. Second, he is a pass first PG that is not scared to take the shot if he is open. I have no problem with somebody else besides Yao and Mac taking a shot, as long as its a smart shot. I know they need some help and Fisher is not scared to shoot. But he will look to pass it first and create for others. Also Fisher is very good with the ball. For his career he has averaged a smidge over 1 t/o. Thats excellent, and his low t/os could possibly put a smile on Jeffs face every once in a while. Also, he is a pesky defender that uses his smarts to defend players, which is just as important as athleticism (which he has plenty of). He is not as laterally quick as say.. a Parker, but he can hold his own, which he has shown. He is also a very effecient player and his teams win more then they lose when he is on the court, which is shown by his +11 PER. All of those characteristics are great but what I really love about Fisher are the intangibles he brings. He is clutch. He is a floor general. He is gritty. He has experience going deep in the playoffs which is SOOOOO important for a PG. Not only does he have championship experience but he has what I call "star" experience. He played with two of the biggest stars in the game, at C and SG, and played great with them. I never heard of Fisher not getting the ball to Shaq, or Fisher taking too many shots. He knows how to play with stars, and plays a team game, which I consider invaluable to this Rockets team. He also will not mess up chemistry. He will come in do his job and bring a winning attitude to work. This nobody should deny. I know there is bickering about "his awful contract" but if you think what he can bring to the team is not worth 6 million, I consider you crazy. I also think that ESPN has played a big role in making Fishers contract look bad. Difference is, he is would not be on the Warriors road to the lottery, but the Rockets road to a championship. If anybody can find a better fit, I would love for you to explain. Until then, I firmly believe Fisher is the man for the job..

    In four words

    Give it a rest

Seriously though, Fisher is terrible. He would be good coming off the bench, but we are discussing starting PG

It's not so much the 6 million per, it's the fact that he still has 5 years left on his contract. He is 30 years old.

is it wrong overpaying for a guy if he is a good contributor that can help lead to championships?

of course derek fisher wont lead you anywhere, hes a roleplayer. Our stars have to do most of the carrying, but Fisher has proved he can play at the highest level, while guys like NVE havent shown me anything. Am I wrong?

i think four words is enough. if we play the 'desperate for a PG' card we'll end up trading for some long/salary cap eating contract that would only have maximum value/impact immediately because it has an aging veteran dangling off of it. face it: we're not going to get a PG we would want right now so why don't we just wait and play with what we got.

Oh cmon. Mike James is a career backup. Fisher had a starting role a championship team. I guess nobody realizes the intangibles that Fisher could bring. How NVE is better than Fisher is beyond me.
