Seriously, someone explain Ryan flippin' Ludwick to me. What the mother crap is that? This freaking journeyman...nobody...batting over .300 with 16 HR's before the end of June??? Seriously??

And Looper?? And Waiwright?? Where am I??? This team on paper should utterly suck.

So Pujols and Wainwright are both hurt for about 3 weeks. Should be time to make up ground on the Redbirds....but I'm sure Ludwick and Ankiel and Ruth and Gehrig, so we're freaked.

And I'm telling you right now...I have no idea what I will do if the Cubs win the World Series. I can not be responsible for my own actions if that happens. It will make Smarty Jones losing the Belmont look like a picnic. I'm not pleased they're doing this well so far, suffice it to say.

Thank you for your time, America.

yeah, i saw that. i don't like "astros fan MadMax." He wishes ill will on other human beings. He takes heart in the injuries of bear cubs and scarlett winged creatures.

My wife and son are obnoxious Cub fans (yeah, I know that's redundant) and I live smack dab in the middle of Cub country so consider yourself lucky you're down in Texas. I feel like such a failure as a parent that I lost my son that way. He's gone waaay over to the dark side.

Envision your son asking you every day, "How far back in the standings are the Astros, Dad?" and then laughing. He's 6'0 so he's too big to spank or wash his mouth out with soap.

No, he's not. Beat his ass.

There is no way my son becomes a Cubs or Cards fan. Granted, I live in Texas so it will be much easier. I have this fear of him playing Little League and ending up being the cubs or cards. I can't allow that stuff in my house. I'd have to make him leave his jersey and hat in the garage or something.

My nightmare is the Rockets being in a Western conference where one game can mean the difference between a 2 seed and a 5 seed....oh wait....

My nightmare is the Texans being in a division where going 8-8 nets you last place, with all 3 other teams making the playoffs.....oh wait.....

My nightmare is the Astros being in a division where being .500 in early June already has you 8.5 games out of first, and has 3 teams ahead of you, with 2 of them seemingly running away with it....oh wait....

Needless to say, I haven't been getting much sleep lately.....

You don't make up ground when you are a .500 team.

Reading this thread made me realize how much pain I must have put my family through when I was a Cubs fan as a kid (and I mean like when I was 10). In my defense (and I know it isn't much of one), I really just liked Ryne Sandberg...but I did watch them a lot on TV.

My god...I'm so ashamed. I had honestly sort of blocked out those memories.

Nightmare? Losing five out of six from the freaking Brewers. Being passed up in the standings by the freaking Pirates.

Remember the 100-loss argument? This ain't a 100 loss team, but it sure as heck ain't a 90-win team. I'll stick by my 82 win projection, but I'm starting to hedge a little lower.

If you get a package in the mail addressed to your kid with my name on the billing info, it's just the Cubs gear I'm sending for him. :D
