So sorry about your loss. It sounds like you had a special bond with your dog. I was away at college when my childhood dog "Pup" that I grew up with was put down by my Mom because of old age problems. I didn't take the news very well about how it went down as I was told after. I can kind of empathize. While I didn't get an official last visit, I did make some nice memories with her on a visit a few weeks earlier. I've lost several pets over the years, including a female lab "Sunny" that died in my kitchen right in front me back in June. I would say the first few weeks to a month are very hard as your routine adjusts. Now, I just try to remember the good times with all my pets. I may do pets again down the road. I've become kind of an expert in pet deaths at this point. It's the worst part of having a pet but everything before that makes it worth it.
Xero, so sorry man, I know losing a pet is dam hard. I had to put my cat down 2 years ago and I cried more than I would for most humans
