I will be the first one to admit, that I've made fun of Señor Ron Mexico's off the field problems.sorry, I couldn't help referring to Michael as Ron..Anyways,when i saw this article it made me appreciate Michael Vick in a way that I hadn't before.Joe Buck had brain washed me into believing that he was selfish and classless.Perdoname señor Mexico,You have a new fan now.I still find it incredible that no one is talking about this in the sports media;yet the water bottle incident was a national security disaster

Michael Vick Giving Back To Virginia Tech In Wake Of Enormous Tragedy

    April 19, 2007 1:57 p.m. EST

Eric Williams - All Headline News Sports Reporter
Atlanta, GA (AHN) - In the wake on the enormous Virginia Tech tragedy, former Hokies quarterback Michael Vick is giving back to the University that helped him to reach the highest levels of his chosen profession.

Vick, now the electrifying quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, has teamed up with the United Way to donate $10,000 to assist families affected by the massacre at his former school.

"When tragic things like this happen, families have enough to deal with, and if I can help in some small way, that's the least I can do," said Vick, the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Falcons in 2001.

The Vick Foundation is collecting donations from local communities in both Atlanta and Virginia that will be placed in the United In Caring Fund for Victims of the Virginia Tech Tragedy and the special fund at the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd counties, which serves the Virginia Tech area.

The money will be used to provide help with funeral expenses, transportation for family members and other support services, Vick's foundation said.

Not to be cynical but was it 10K total or per family?

I wonder what Marcus Vick is doing these days?

Yeah, if it is $10k total, I'm not impressed. Dude is a bazillionairre. $10k is like $100 to us. Hell, maybe $10.

Then why arent we all donating $100 each?

Doesnt matter how much money he has...how many other athletes/actors/CEO's make as much or more money than him and what percentage of them has done anything?

The fact that he is doing something should be applauded, not dismissed.

IMO, for the most part, money should be invested in trying to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. I think for the parents of these students, that's the most important thing. I'm not a parent, but if my kid died in an incident like this, I would be trying to know just went wrong and make sure no other student end up like this... not looking for monetary compensations.

Well the reason why most people are presumably not donating anything to Va. Tech is that most people probably don't have any connection to the school.

Michael Vick became famous there and has a deep connection with the school also including his brother. So I think Vick, other pros from Va. Tech and wealthy alumni should be giving back to their family.

Obviously doing something is better than nothing, but like MB stated Vick might be in the net worth of 75-100MM these days.

I don't want to sound rude or insensitive...just ignorant...

but what will the money donated be used for? to distribute to the victims' families to use as they wish?

Bravo. Right on. What's the disconnect between acknowledging an act of good will, or immediately wanting to belittle it in this country?

    Jealousy?

Well, I can appreciate this type of gesture...It may not seem like a lot, but overall, I respect what he's doing...I thought it would have been more, but something is better than nothing...
