I know there was recently a thread about books, but I'm going on vacation (w/ very long plane rides and airport waiting) and was wondering what are some books that are considered "must reads." I am not a big book reader but have started reading a lot more and this might be a good time to knock out some really famous/popluar books. Any suggestions?
Short stories my man. Raymond Carver is nice. May be a tad sentimental for airports though. Any 1940's pulp mystery anthologies are quick and fun. Go to Half Price Books though. Nice bargins. I read I, Claudius on a bus trip from Argentina-Bolivia-Peru-Chile.
I say this in every book thread and I know people may get tired of it, but... You won't be able to put it down. About so much more than just football. Much better than the movie, too.
Why type of books are you looking for (popular fiction, historical, science fiction, mystery)? The best book I've ever read is The Count of Monte Cristo, it's pretty long though. Some shorter books that I'd recommend: The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald 1984 - George Orwell Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Moneyball, if you like baseball, and when I mean baseball, you have to like it A LOT to LOVE this book. Otherwise you'll think it's really stupid.
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, first book in the song of ice and fire series. Hands down my favorite books of all time (and I've read A LOT).
not that you need to like baseball a lot, more you have to like stats, lots of statistics in this book, but nonetheless a good book.
The Harry Potter books The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton Rumble Fish by S. E. Hinton I also recommend reading most of Nicholas Spark's books like A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Message in a Bottle.
The Great Gatsby is probably one of the top 5 American novels ever written, and it's not even a difficult read. If you hated the book, then there's something wrong with you (I kid, but only barely).
How the Universe Got Its Spots - by Janna Levin The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality - by Brian Greene Science is crazier then any fiction.
What stats are you referring to? I remember alot about on-base percentage and the stories behind the players that Billy Beane targeted, but nothing too complicated.
