I know that most music that trys to bring together two completely different genres tends to be lame a lot of the time. But there is some stuff that works and just sounds good together. What are your favorite musicians/albums/songs that would be categorized in the "fusion" genre? Anything from jazz/hip-hop to trance/rock to electronic/indian... I'll start with Nitin Sawhney , who is probably the best I've heard at bringing contemporary indian music together with jazz, drum 'n' bass, and electronic. Any others?
i swEar i heard sum preacher say "throw yo hands in da aya if ya luv jesus" as i was flipping thru the channels and landed on the religion channel.
I love the Ratatat remix series. (Electronic indie rock + rap) Here is one track off of their new remix album: http://ratatatmusic.com/mp3/04 The Mule (Ratatat remix).mp3
Within the last year my taste in music has been changing. I have went from enjoying Alternative Rock to enjoying music with a hybrid flavor. Nitin Sawhney is very interesting. I first heard of him while listening to a Café Del Mar album. Here are some of my favorite: St. Germain = Jazz + Tecno Gotan Project = Electronica + Tango B-Tribe = Flamenco + Dance + New Age Praful = Jazz + Ambiant + ??
When I hear "fusion", I think of the classic fusion jazz artists/bands of the late '60s to early '70s. This includes The Mahavishnu Orchestra (the original version), Return to Forever, Weather Report, Larry Coryell and the Eleventh House, and of course Miles Davis.
