I heard recently about the 76'ers Allen Iverson complaing about "dressing up" while the team is traveling or in any official capacity. What is up with that? How hard is it to put a freakin' suit and tie on and show that you have respect and taste. Maybe the suit and tie doesn't go with his braided hair, but if you make several million dollars , don't you think you could put a jacket and tie on, while you travel on a chartered plane between games? I know I could. What is with these players who think they are too good to look professional? Making a personal appearance at a specific location is one thing...traveling is another. Personally, I think he looks like crap, but that is my own taste. But if half of my life was spent traveling on a plane, I would be pissed if I had to wear anything more than khakis and a nice shirt. Suit and tie...no way, not if I'm pulling in to town @ 4am! He wears his job uniform on the court, let him sleep in what ever he wants.
I think the same way, Curly. The dress code at our place of employment is "business casual", but I prefer to wear a tie to work. That's just the level of professionalism I'm most comfortable with. It's a personal choice, just as it is when someone wears a T-shirt and jeans to work. Iverson is a grown man. It's a little silly for another grown man to tell him how to dress, in my opinion. Personally, I think he looks like a jackass-- but even if I were the Sixers owner or coach, I would let him dress as he pleased. What is Iverson's problem? It's just a friggin' suit! The reason teams want their players to dress professionally is because of the team concept. Yea, I understand that they are still a team whether they dress alike or not, but some of the NBA players of today have no idea what professionalism is all about. I figure as long as they are on "company" time, they should follow team rules. Hell, just fine the b*stard 5-10K a game if he doesn't want to wear a suit.
