rimbaud: Everyone, really? Wow! Stop the lecturing from above, please.

Mrs.JB: I'm sorry if I misunderstood you, but you seem to be mostly interested in taking potshots at most of my positions. BTW, you used a grin (not a smile) and a LOL; it doesn't automatically register as a friendly communication. The subject of your post was "you" contrasted with "OTHER" -- that makes it seem to be about me directly. Couple that with your first remark (... the worst EVER"-- notice the caps) and it is impossible to tell where you are coming from. I assumed you are coming from where you often come from.

I never said you you devoted time to it, it has always seemed more like an autoresponse.

RM95: Just more of your flippancy. I wanted some serious input and all I get is flippancy......

    |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I don't really expect any sympathy from you three. You are the worst offenders to me. Your responses to me are all to often (not always) characterized by "smarty-pants" criticisms.

I don't expect you to notice it since you are delivering it. If you were me, you would notice it.

IF you notice, every other post in this thread is on topic. I don't mind tangential posts but mocking one of the posters is not a legitimate tangent in my opinion.

I guess others are of a like mind since they seem to be able to refrain from such meandering and say something about the topic.

Sorry if I've ruined your fun.....

I may be paranoid, but my paranoia is informed and very focused.

I will refrain from kidding around with you any longer. Jeez.

I guess i'd be best off issuing a "no comment" on all the extra-curricular acitivities going on in this thread. Yeah, self-censorship is THA BOMB!!!

Anyway, MTV is pretty repulsive nowadays. I'm only 24 as well, and agree that's it's all T & A, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but HARDLY gives the channel a reason to call itself MTV. It's seems to kinda ignore that whole music thing, which i find shocking and disappointing because that's what the channel was founded upon. I honestly do still love real world and road rules, even if they aren't the highest form of programming on TV. (The dude Kevin Dunn from Real world a couple years back works on radio in austin....met him at a wedding a couple of weeks back.)

Anyway, the dating shows, the high school porns, the EVERY OTHER PIECE OF CRAP SHOW that mtv puts on pretty much needs to go....Or maybe i need to stop actually giving MTV a chance to redeem itself. One of us, either MTV or myself, needs to get its sh*t together! :)

Well, there are over what, 300-400 channels available now? Flip the switch and watch something else! I think there's plenty of room(channels) to go around that MTV can be avoided if you so choose. They have a right to exist as any channel around. I really don't see the big deal. Flip the switch and never watch its "debauchery and absurdity" ever again.....:)

RM95: I'm sorry if I misunderstood you, but I never know where you are coming from. How could I? You and I disagree on too many issue. I can't tell (sometimes) when you are being sarcastic and when you are being serious. How often is it that you and I agree on anything?

Esource: I know I can turn it off; I never watch anything on it deliberatelly. I just caught some stuff while channel surfing that I watched for a few minutes and was kind of disgusted. If it wasn't some kind of cultural icon, I'd just shrug it off. And, I would add, that not everything just has the right to exist on TV. Another thing, there shouldn't be an adequate market for the stuff the show. That is a sad commentary on our society.

It's still a matter of personal choice giddyup. I can agree that you have the right to be disgusted by MTV, but I don't think it would be right to ban them just becuz you(and others) are disgusted by them. I know this argument can go round-and-round(First Amendment issues, etc.) and we'd never find a resolution, but the bottom line is MTV has the right to be on air whether people like them or not. People have the choice to watch them or not AND if enough people would stop watching them(and supporting them), MTV would go out of business and the story would be over......imo

    1. I never said word one about banning them.
    2. They do have a right to be on the air-- assuming they don't break obscenity laws. My question is how they have survived? How have they become an icon with such trashy programming? I'm very surprised that more defenders of MTV have not shown up on this thread; maybe they will later.

    1. My assumption, my mistake. I thought this was where this was leading to.

    2. It's a funny thing about MTV. My theory is that their programming(and the behaviors on them) is nothing new at all. I believe those "type" of behaviors have always been around. Either people just didn't want to face it or it was not broadcasted as easily as it is now(mass media, internet, etc.). I do not believe for one minute that MTV caused any of this. Rather, MTV is a product of what has always been around but a majority of the nation never saw/heard of it because of a lack of media outlet, etc. For example, when I first heard of the word "condom", I did not know what that was. My parents never spoke of it, never hinted at it, etc. So when I found out what it was, I was shocked(thought it was the coolest thing)! Soon afterwards, I come to find out that "condoms" have been around for a long time and that it just wasn't something spoken about openly until recently. Same thing w/ those behaviors on MTV's shows. Those behaviors have been around "forever" but were not discussed(and portrayed) so openly as they are nowadays, especially on national TV. If my mother saw those MTV shows, her shock would NOT be at the "behavior" on them(because she can confirm that in her day, they also occured but it just was not talked about openly) BUT rather that those "behaviors" were actually shown on TV. That's what would be shocking to her.....

I agree with whoever posted that I'm no longer in MTV's target age demographic. i do watch some VH1 while flipping...assuming that they're doing a storytellers or something regarding an artist i like. but for the most part, i don't watch music videos anymore....they seem largely irrelevant now as a market force...maybe i'm just too old. it just seems there was a time when MTV was driving sales of CDs with videos (think of groups like Aerosmith in the early 90's)...now I don't THINK they do that as much...just my perception. while posting this i just thought that britney spears could probably attribute a good deal of her financial success to a visual media like MTV.

Why do I get lumped in with RM95 and Mrs JB. Wow, how insulting. I am much smarter than RM95 and way better looking than Mrs JB.

Giddy, the song I posted was called "MTV get off the air" and was about how much MTV sucked (and was from 1985 by the way). I really don't understand how that can be "not on topic." Add to that that it was a song itself and it is further tied into MTV.

And yes, giddy, everyone...they all told me. Man...

I don't care about the music videos on MTV. I'd rather watch shows like Cribs, sometimes Real World, Making of the Video and other behind the scenes stuff.

When MTV first came out it my friends & I watched it all the time. Since my parents did not have cable, I could only watch it @ a friends house who had cable.

When I moved out on my own I thought it would great. I can now watch whatever I wanted (MTV). Alas, MTV went down the tubes IMHO.

Now, I am married & my wife likes watching The Real World & other programs they present on MTV. IMHO I think their programs are pure garbage, no substance.

That's not entirely true. I continuously take potshots at you, but I just don't bother to post them. You aren't worth the effort.

rimbaud: Have you seen the video of Mrs. JB cooking stir fry? You are not better looking!

You say that just because you have never seen me...and especially haven't seen me cooking stir fry (and mine would taste better). Believe me, this is not to take away from Mrs JB - she is good looking, smart, and a good person. She just can't compete with perfection. ;)

    Too true, too true ...

Not only is rimbaud smart and attractive, but he's remarkably agile for someone with a club foot! :)
