I don't know if anyone here is doing the MS150, but its a great event. Its a 180 mile bike ride (over two days) to Austin that raises money for Multiple Sclerosis. Its the MS Society's primary fundraiser and a striking percentage of the funds goes towards research. The ride this year was capped (and filled) at 13,000 riders. I did it a couple years back and really enjoyed it. The pancake breakfast on the 2nd day was awesome.
I usually donate to a couple of friends of mine who ride each year. Riding 150 miles on a bike is not my idea of fun, personally.
I've done it in the past (four times) and if the weather is nice it's a great ride. The biggest issue is that it is SO crowded that it makes some parts of the ride difficult and the showers have really long lines.
i know i'm gonna sound dumb, but how does this ride work? if it takes over two days to finish, do people stop at a rest stop and put up a tent to sleep? check into a hotel for a few hours?
I am a first timer riding with the Houstonian Hammerheads. My training partner was one of the top 300 fundraisers last year, so he (along with one guest - guess who ) gets to start at the front of the RAM's (raggety ass masses). macalu - there is a tent city set up at the La Grange fairgrounds, complete with showers (in trucks), meals, and adult beverages. They have busses to take you back to Houston from Austin and your bike gets put on a truck back to Houston. Courtesy of my training partner I am gravy training my way into a house in La Grange, no tent or shower truck for me. The only bad part so far is the team jersey. Its a combination of a NASCAR billboard and the Rockets dildo jersey, comprised of colors that don't occur in nature. I hope it cools off a bit and stays dry. Good luck to everyone else riding.
My brother is riding with the St. Arnolds Brewery team (whoo! free beer!). I'm camping with him in La Grange and will be there at the finish line.
