I just got my tax refund and looking at getting a mp3 player. I know that iPod is the industry leader, but is there a better alternative? I am mostly going to be using this player while working out. So I need something small, that can fit in a pocket. The Samsung YP-T8Z caught my eye. It is 1GB, looks cool and plays mpeg video as well as music. It is about 180 in stores. The only thing I worry about is that if I get a 1GB, I will be wishing I had gotten another mp3 player with more capacity. Anyway, which do you guys have?
I ordered a cell phone that has the capability of performing as an mp3 player as well, kills two birds with one stone but as far as stand alone mp3 players I always hear god things about that industry leader iPod but beyond that others can help you.
When you say that you're going to use it when working out do you mean running? Or do you mean machines? The reason I'm asking is that if you're going to put the player under any sort of stress you should think about a flash-based player. These don't have hard drives so are less likely to suffer if you bounce it around. The trade-off is that you don't get as much space. If you are going to use it on machines (where you are mostly stationary and stable) then get any player you want. I have a Dell DJ30 and really like it, however, they stopped making them. The Toshiba Gigabeat looks neat and that may be the one I go for when my DJ dies.
I'll be doing both. Hitting the machines and going on the treadmill for cardio. I will check out the Gigabeat.
I'm holding out for this puppy... Toshiba Gigabeat S http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/media/gigabeat.mspx http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/05/toshiba-gigabeat-s-portable-media-center-with-2-4-inch-qvga-lcd/
i got the cowon iaudio flash based. Holds like 100 songs i think? U don't have to worry about it breaking. Best reviews on cnet for a flash based. Rechargable battery through usb port. No programs to transfer files onto the player. I love mine.
We have 5 ipods in our house 1st gen 5gb, 2nd gen 20gb, 1gb shuffle, 512gb shuffle, brand new opened today 30gb video in black. I've loved every single one. I got my 1st gen a month after they were released, later passed that one down to my wife and got the 2nd gen 20. The 2 shuffles were gifts and I carry the 1gb in my pocket everyday and transfer files with it at work and have a selection of music at all times. My wife has the other shuffle in her car for running at the park. The new video ipod hooks up to my stereo in the car and works with the controls on my steering wheel and radio. The old 20gb sits on the treadmill for our use as needed. Disclaimer: We both work on Macs all day.

I know everyone was on the edge of their seats wondering what I would get. I got the 30GB Video iPod. I originally bought the 2GB Nano, then I was lurking around the iTunes site then I saw all those video podcasts and started subscribing to regular podcasts and I noticed that I probably would fill up 2GB pretty fast. So I took the Nano back to Circuit City, got the video iPod and I have been loving it. The iPod/iTunes integration is really nice once you learn how all of it works. thanks for all the suggestions.
Rio Carbon It's worked great for me for well over a year. I love. Very light, very sleek, very reliable, and it all comes relative cheaply.
So I'm checking out the ipod website, are the ipods now all video ipods? or did they just change the layout of them, with the bigger screen and color?
