I am leaving my beloved Houston because I was offered a killer job in Pittsburgh and I was getting laid off. So any of you guys lived up there or live up there? What are the best places to live, eat, nightlife and simply hang out? I will work in Downtown and don't really leave until December/January but want to plan out everything as much as I can. I've checked out plenty of sites but wanted some honest opinions about the city just so I know what to expect.

You might be able to rent this from Netflix. It really is a cool little documentary, though the subject matter might not be the kind of action you're looking for. Don't let the title fool you. It's not about strip clubs.

PS. That guy has done several documentaries about Pittsburgh. If I was moving there, I'd watch all over them. Oh, and even his documentaries that aren't exclusively about his home town usually mention something from there worth checking out, such as places to eat or visit.

    I hope this helps.

You're life just ended, sorry to be the one. Going from houston to pittsburgh is like going from j-lo to ms cleo. Hope the money is worth it.

My family is from there, and ive been there around 6 or 7 times. 1st off... if you dont learn to root for the Penguins or Steelers, you WILL HATE IT there. Everyone is a die-hard fan of those two teams.Literally 90% of the people that you will see will either have a shirt or hat with either logo on it. Its very nice there, right in downtown they have a place called Station Square and it has some nice restraunts and bars and a couple places to shop. You can also take a fairy that will take you threw the many rivers of Pittsburgh (its actually nicknamed the city of Rivers). Very beautiful, but be patient in traffic, theres tons of rivers flowing so theres hundreds of bridges so it can become bottlenecked alot. I would suggest living actually in downtown because some of the towns around pittsburgh are somewhat ghetto,(cant say all because i havent been to every surrounding city). People are nice there and LOTS and i mean LOTS of hills and mountains... that will be a huge change from living in Houston. Another cool part is that they PNC Park and Heinz Field are right on the river and its absolutley beautiful at any time of the day or night. They also just opened a big casino right beside all of the parks. Hope this helps.

I lived in Pittsburgh for a while. I think it's a great city and it's definitely extremely beautiful. That J-Lo to Miss Cleo comment was pretty much exactly backwards.

What do you want to know?

Just basically honest opinions about the city, which you have provided very well, and things I should look out for that may not be obvious to the untrained eye to the city like myself.

Cool, I guess what is the cost of living out there compared to Houston. I've heard less, more about the same but nothing constant. Any nice apartments in downtown that I should check out?

ehh, its honestly about the same, maybe a TAD less. I would say the biggest difference is that gas prices will prob. be about 10-15 cents higher up there then what we are used to around houston. I dont have any names of apartments off the top of my head, but they do have alot of apartments and lofts around downtown that are very nice.

Quite possibly the most underrated skyline in the world. Also, PNC Park is my favorite ballpark out of the 20 or so I've been to.

It's one of the best sports towns in America, definitely some of the most devoted fans. But don't try to get a bartender to change the channel (even on one of three TV's) to an NBA game. They don't have much use for pro basketball in Pittsburgh.

Great eating, great bars, great arts scene, great museums, great theatre, tons of history, tons of natural beauty and parks and places to hike and, I'd say, a lower cost of living all around than Houston. Not by much, but by some. If you ever want to buy a house there, you can practically get a mansion for a real steal. And there are so many great neighborhoods to visit and get to know and so many great places to live. I lived in about five different neighborhoods over the course of about two years worth of gigs there.

And the people there are super friendly, very down to earth.

I really think you're going to like it.

Wow, Batman thanks so much. Between you and Rockets1988 I feel a heck of a lot better about going to the "Burgh".

Thanks to all who have wished me luck, appreciate it.
