Ok, I've gone on record saying that I thought that Transformers was a pile of crap as a movie. I still went and saw it, and the effects were damn cool...and I'll go see Transformers 2 because I grew up with the cartoon and toys in the 80's.

Anyway, there was some info leaked about the new movie today, so I figured it was time to start the movie thread.

IESB Exclusive: Transformers 2 Character Breakdowns Plus New Decepticons!

    Written by Robert Sanchez
    Thursday, 03 April 2008

With a sequel to the mega-hit Transformers coming, fans everywhere are excited about seeing old friends again on the big screen. OK BIG SPOILER WARNING PEOPLE! BEWARE...

The big questions are who will be back and what new characters will we see? Which new heroes and baddies will we get to see on the big screen this time around?

There has been some web speculation that Transformers 2 is already in production, that is not accurate, it's public knowledge that Michael Bay worked on the script during the WGA strike and once it was over it was handed over to the writing trio of Kurtzman/Orci/Kruger. So a lot of prep work has already been done on the film getting ready for the upcoming July start date, the film is definitely gearing up for the intended mid-summer start date.

Now, on with the ROBOT ROLL CALL!

First, the Decepticons will be getting some new help in the form of Constructicons. In the cartoons, their names were Scrapper, Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Mixmaster, Hook and Long Haul. And what do we get when they all combine and form one huge ass robot? That’s right boys and girls, we are going to see DEVASTATOR on the big screen!

A REALLY BIG ****ING ROBOT IS COMING!
It's hard to tell what Michael Bay and his merry band of filmmaker friends will be calling the Constructicons in Transformers 2, but the above names will most likely change, especially considering that they used the name "Bonecrusher" in the first film.

In addition to the Constructicon news, the IESB has just been given the following human character/casting breakdowns -

[CHUCK] 19-25 yrs., Sam's roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life. (2nd Lead)

[U.S. MILITARY LEADER] Late 20s/early 30s, African American with a great sense of humor and a tough military presence. (Supporting lead)

[UK SPECIAL FORCES LEADER] British, in his early to mid 30s, smart and capable. Can be Caucasian, Black, East Indian. (Supporting lead)

[GALLOWAY] Early 40s-early 50s, male, National Security Advisor and presidential liaison. A curt man who is tightly wound. (Supporting Lead)

[PROFESSOR COLAN] 40s, Sam's physics professor at Princeton. He's a self-satisfied intellectual who compares himself to Einstein, and is arrogant enough to wear leather pants to look cool. (1 Scene)

[THERESA] Early 30s; she's Sgt. Epps' wife, has 4 kids, sassy and sexy, good with comedy. Submit African American actresses only

[MOMMA SIMMONS] This NY Momma is in her late 60s / early 70s. She runs a deli/ butcher shop with her son in Brooklyn. Tough and sarcastic. (1 Scene)

[MASSIVE DYNAMICS CEO] 50s, male, this Corporate CEO appears in front of congress to testify. (1 speech/scene)

[TEXAS CONGRESSMAN] 55-65 yrs., on a Congressional Committee investigating the purpose of the "Automated Defensive Initiative" developed by Massive Dynamics.

[FBI DIRECTOR] Mid 50s, male, giving a press release assuring the public they will be safe against attacks. (1 speech/scene)

[CNN REPORTER] Reporting on missile strikes and bombings in various cities. Submit male / female, all ethnicities (1 speech)

**On a related note, there is a rumor circulating on the Don Murphy message boards that Natassia Malthe has been cast aleady in Transformers 2, but we haven't not gotten any confirmation on that tidbit, so that's pure speculation at this point.

We have reached out to Paramount Pictures as well as to different members of the production company to confirm the above story, but they have not yet responded to our requests.

As soon as we hear something from our friends at the studio we will let you know!

Stay tuned to the IESB as we continue to bring you the latest news on Transformers 2!

I actually liked the first one...It's not oscar worthy or had incredible dialogue, but more nostalgic and sweet azz special effects...

    I'd definitley see a sequel...

That fan pic is pretty sweet.

I liked and didn't like the first one. In the end, I thought they went a little too far away from the originals - I guess I just preferred the boxy toy-like appearances better than the twisted metal alien style.

I really hope we get more from the side of the robot factions and a little less from the human vantage points, but not holding my breath.

The human angle I don't mind so much, so long as it's not some lame, hacker subplot where a guy can easily decipher ALIEN codes in a matter of seconds, and the same guy can "hot wire" a computer to transmit beeps through an old morse code machine. The only thing I didn't like about the movie.

Humans and computers can do anything together in a movie. Haven't you learned that? ;)

That already tops any previous TF model from the 1st movie. This fan knows what we want to see. I liked the movie okay but the robot designs by FAR, besides typical Michael Bay contrived scenes, was what I hated most.

Why do producers INSIST on applying their own intrepretations from originals? Transformers needed a little facelift at most, not become oversized alien scouring pads like this crap:

I hated the dialogue I thought it was lazy and dumb. The action was boring and it seemed like the highlight for the filmmakers was animating the garden scene.

The biggest selling Optimus toy (before the movie) was a bull nosed truck with flames. I also read the designs were actually from the toy company.

As long as they don't bring back that kid. He was annoying and could not act.

I liked the first one although the plot and dialog left a lot to be desired. I personally wouldn't mind the next one to be just as bad if we get more sexy scenes from..

I'm with you guys- the designs for most of the transformers in robot form were crummy. I don't need 10,000 gears on my robots. They should have at least made Megatron a giant cannon.

My one hope for this movie- if they're going to introduce the
Constructicons, they should at least bring in the Dinobots for the autobots side. I remember when the Constructicons were introduced in the cartoon, the only thing that could beat their merged form was the Dinobots.

I think you're set there. If you watch any other Bay movies, he has a hard-on for hot brunettes with blue eyes.

I wasn't overly thrilled with the designs, but I get what they were trying to do. They talk a lot about mass shifting in the DVD and in the cartoons they could cheat and transform them however they wanted without worrying about the size difference and letting parts just dissappear (Optimus's trailer and Megatron's hand gun form being the most obvious).

The other thing was that Bay didn't want the robots to just be lumbering giants, so that's why transformations like this didn't fit what they were going for:

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NCqi9G3T23U&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NCqi9G3T23U&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

To me, the stupid things were like that a 20 year old australian girl was working for Pentagon or the NSA and was able to figure things out about the code and that Anthony Anderson was this bad ass hacker but he lived with his grandma when in reality he'd be a conultant making lots of money.

The action was definately not boring and in a movie about giant robots, crazy ridiculous action, which is Bay's forte, is exactly what you want.

Holy crap I had those when I was a kid. My parents bought them all at once for a christmas present but I was to stupid to be able to put them all together.

There is a re-issue out that comes already put together. I saw it at Wal-Mart the other day but it was close to $30.

Huh? He really messed up with the scene at the kid's house, then. I mean for besides it just being annoying.

It could work if it's animated right:

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BMVTgnW1_Pw&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BMVTgnW1_Pw&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

By far the biggest problem of the movie was the script. God I hope they don't add that "comedy-relief" character opposite of LeBouf that was rumored to be in the sequel.

I apologize for not having spoilers on my previous post, thought they were there but too late now :(

Thanks for the clarification. Hasbro FTL

Most the vehicle and in-disguise modes actually are nicely done. The robot modes though, too much jags and clutter on the exteriors to make out what's what on them. Needed a Transformers type update but they went all Starship Troopers on it

How do you go from this
    [IMG]

    to again this?

The transformers movie was good. But I agree with everyone else.

The alien tech thing has to go. i could barely see who was who. Megatron looked like walking scribble. He should have been way more simplified. The minor tweaks with optimus and bumble bee was tolerated, they should have applied the same concept to megatron.

Please not another one. They already destroyed part of my childhood memories witht he first movie :(

Atleast do not let Bay make the movie. He is terrible.

The plot was bad, the robots were done terribly. it was just overal a terrible movie.

Let me quote myself in a thread about the first movie
