Why couldn't the producers just follow the book if you never read the book, i strongly suggest you read it. If you where wondering whats difference between the ending of the book and the movie, the book ends with the word "hope".
also i just realized that there was alot of hidden message in the movie Spoiler The army came like 5mins too late, when he "sacrificed" his kid which was the sacrifice of abraham scene, where at the end the angel comes and stop him, but in this case the US army comes too late (jab at the government here?) and the scene where they carried the army guy out, a "jesus" character? Stabbed by a spear, making a cross position as the angry mob carried him to his death.

i havent read the book, but it sounds like the movies ending was a lot darker than the ending of the book. i think the movies ending was better, much more dark
