I'm over 25 and really liked this movie. Agree to disagree I suppose. And the matrix didnt rip off of other movies that ripped off of others? come on man. This nitpicking is getting out of hand. Sure there were elements of the matrix but hardly call it a rip off job. It's 'superman' so the guy is going to be 'the one' and 'the man' right? I mean isnt that implied in the name of the damn movie? SUPERMAN?!?!? Also superman came along WAAAAY before matrix. Remember Superman was the original gangsta. OG. If anything wachowskis were ripping from superman. Also anyone that like the donner movies cant look themselves in the mirror and tell me that margot kidder as lois lane (she was about as sexy a roseanne barr btw)..the whole terrace scene and pretty much the whole superman I and II were a running joke of corny-ness.How anyone can compare the 2 on any level is pretty ridiculous. In regards to lois lane on this new man of steel I thought the ending was spot on and leaves a lot to work with for next movie. people are claiming there is no love connection yet superman starts off by cauterized her wound (saving her life) then took off all baller style for her to not know who or what he was. Yeah that's not mysterious guys. Have any of you critics of the love element been laid before? Mystery and suspense gets em wet fellas. Yeah that wasnt a powerful way to start off him freaking saving her life. And then when zod came and superman asks for her and she becomes an element of saving the world too , ya I can see where the girl totally wouldnt be interested in that guy. that superman guy what a loser. Also superman wasn't some fumbling fool jocking her it felt real to see him grow to her because he did gain her trust. They build this theme from the outset of people and not necessarily getting to warm up to people since he is a 'freak' He learns to love the humans as well which is touching through his being raised by humans and happening upon human family that loved and nutured him. And costner doesnt just die right there like the donner versions with no ummph. Superman wasn't able to save him even though he could. In the donner version he just croaks. Talk about compelling. In regards to the getting closer to lois, remember he is an alien and was taught from the beginning to not always trust people and was one of the freaking themes of the damn movie!! UUGGG !! Then after that after all these moments where they almost kiss.. and are saving the world throughout with epic battles its fully unbelievable to think that they wouldnt start to develop feelings for each other? I mean yeah even at the lowest level of stockholm syndrome it happens but heres this ripped good looking guy thats saving the world, asking for her specifically because she didnt break the story and reaching out to her in a moment of crisis. Yeah guys totally unbelievable that lois wouldnt be a LITTLE bit attracted.
Really? I remember enjoying the Avengers and everything, but that's about it. Didn't make much of a lasting impression. I feel like Man of Steel tried to go a little deeper, and I think it succeeded at times. Unfortunately the extended action sequences overpowered a lot of it.
^ That's why you're the DC kid... I rate the Avengers higher because I can see everything that's happening in the action sequences. Whedon took patience guiding the audience of setting up the scenes. The unsteady shaky cam in Superman, plus the too up close framing made it a unwatchable barffest at times. When I watch it again, I'll have to watch it in HD. I consider those techniques low budget gimmicks that's totally unnecessary for today's summer blockbusters. It just creates the tension of chaos rather than delivering the substance of chaos, since your mind isn't allowed to focus on everything so it's forced to focus on one or two main things on the screen. In nit picky internet geek mode, I get the feeling that Avengers is the totally more watchable movie than MoS, with both being pretty good movies to watch again and again. I also liked the MoS's story more than Avengers, and it blows away the previous movies, imo. It's a solid reboot and I felt the retelling added something new to the audience...krypton's origin, making the antagonists more relatable, conceding points in the original series that seemed like common sense. To me though, Avengers accomplished something that hasn't been done before. It's taken comic book movies on a new gold standard in terms of action and making all of the marquee characters fit. You can't even compare it with Fantastic Four or Xmen movies. Everyone else is playing catchup to the point where I doubt I'll see a Justice League movie for at least another five years.
I know what pacing and characterization is. 90 minutes (or however long it was) of straight action is not good pacing and if you try to tell me it was, then I don't think YOU know what pacing is. And for character developed, sure, Zod and Superman were developed (though I don't think Superman was developed enough, but whatever), but the character development for everyone else was terrible. The romance was REALLY forced, they didn't develop that at all. And the people that worked at the daily planet, we saw them in like one or two really short scenes before the nonstop action and then at the end we are suddenly supposed to care about them or something? Go look at any blockbuster movie thats actually good. You'll notice that they have action set pieces throughout, but there is breaks in between those set pieces to allow for character and plot development. They may end on a big final battle or something, but that battle is usually not more then 30 minutes long or so. I really want to see you justify how an hour of straight story with very little to no action then 90 minutes of straight action with no breaks is good pacing. Any critic who would try to tell me that is good pacing is a terrible criitc
I think we all need to realize that the biggest what's driving everyone's comments in this thread is the underlying battle of DC vs. Marvel. I know I am extremely biased towards DC and will go above and beyond to prove DC is better. And I know some of you will do the same for Marvel. So how about someone just make a "Marvel vs. DC" thread and go from there.
So it's supposed to follow a formula? Like bollywood where we have to have at least X number of singing dancing scenes? Perhaps a more subtle plot development intertwined is too deep for you? It needs to be spelled out and dumbed down? I feel insulted watching a dumbed down version of pretty much 99% of the 'blockbusters that are actually good' coming out of hollywood. Please point me to these great developments of your structure process. I want to believe. This notion that it is supposed to follow some formula is about as whack as it gets. Seriously. I am not here to bash you but pacing to a formula you feel is 'right' is something akin to OCD. Can't open door unless I tap it 3 times, and say a certain phrase while closing my left eye. How boring and predictable is that. 'okay yeah this is the love scene'... 'next is when we develop x' .. ideas like that are the reason why I pretty much always wait for it to come on video or tv. Predictability has killed hollywood. So intense pace just isnt for you huh? Should I go see benjamin button? An action movie that is too intense? That's like a perfect tit that is too suckable. A race car driver that drives too fast. A pool of water that is too wet. and on and on.. I am sure you are a nice guy but man what a joke.
just above average movie. found myself yawning after superman was thrown through a wall for the 89th time. and unfortunately, there was nothing memorable about the theme song. it didn't have that special feeling you get when you hear the original.
Fair enough. But the way the Kryptonians harvested babies. The Neo-Smith fight. I'll leave it alone now. On to World War Z.
Yeah but he's responding to someone who is calling the movie dissapointing and hasn't even watched it yet. I don't think anyone should have expected Batman going into this thing. Different character different director.
How on earth can you believe 90 minutes of straight action is good pacing? It doesn't have to follow a formula, no, but if its going to break that formula, then the way they did it is not the right way. I was BORED of the action. That shouldn't happen. There was no dramatic tension by the end because it was so constant. Thats why you need breathers. When you have a bunch of set pieces right in a row that he keeps getting out of, it allows no room for tension to build. But when you have those breathers, it makes the set pieces more effective and more tense. There is a reason most of those movies follow that formula. BECAUSE IT WORKS. 90 minutes of straight action does not work. I don't see how anyone who knows the slightest bit about film could think that. What, so you are saying there was subtle plot development in all that action? Enlighten me on that. Spoiler We already knew what Zod wanted by that point, to find the codex and make a new krypton. That never changes. Only thing we find out really is that he wants to make Earth the new Krypton (even though theres tons of uninhabited planets he could easily go to but I guess he wants to be an ******* just for the sake of it), which we could have easily guessed anyway. Superman wants to stop them because its been established he likes humans. Zod is the only character that gets any character development once that action starts. I guess we do find out is the codex is in Superman (which, by the way, is kind of really stupid), what a huge plot point. Oh, and the military, after firing missiles on a town full of innocent civilians, decides Superman is a good guy. Can you enlighten me on what else happened? On all this subtle plot stuff that you mentioned that I apparently missed?? Because thats not a whole lot of plot development for 90 minutes
As much as I love The Matrix. Many of their stuff are either ripped off or influenced by movies(Dark City), anime(Ghost In the Shell, Megazone 23), comic books etc and yes they even ripped off/influenced from Superman(the comic) in that fight sequences...I see MOS end scenes more of a AKIRA influences.
I have not seen Superman and am not a comics guy but like movies. All that said I thought the Avengers was entertaining... But not a good movie. The plot was so ludicrous, even in superhero land. It wasnt superbly acted - or if it was the dialogue and plot again held it back. To each their own.
I agree but I think some of these bridges are gapped in the minds of fans that already connect to these characters. The actors are playing roles that have already been developed over 50 years. I think I liked the movie... well, yeah, I definitely liked it. Just not sure how much. I'll have to lit it sit for awhile then rewatch it before I know for sure.
Too many holes in the plot...the plot of the movie required more time and they had too many sequences showing bits of things here and there that didn't flow well.....and damn the dialogue was atrocious. Not very good acting from superman either....4.5/10.
Ahahaha! ****ing r****d. http://www.troll.me/images/r****d-superman/mom-eben-die-welt-retten-haha-u-mad-bro-thumb.jpg
As best I can tell, you're the one who is mad. I'm just not hesitant to let other people know how much of a douchebag you are. Since...you're...ya know...a douchebag.
Total badassery. I like this backstory more than the previous supermans... even more than the Christopher Reeve superman. The action was tightsauce, but could have been better had it not been shot too close. My only gripe was
I thought the kissing scene in the end was really out of place since there was no romantic chemistry at all between Hopeman and Lois. So I was surprised they kisses. The scene where Morpheus was trying to save that nobody girl from the rubble was funny since I wouldn't care at all if they all died. I was actually a bit excited to see the flattened by the force of that pulse. Those are the only things that stood out that I cam remember now. Jar El was still a badass even after death. I wished his armor was somehow passed on to Hopeman and used when fighting against Zod. Also my reaction when Zod came out with his own Hopeman pajamas was like “aww shiiiieet he got one too!” and got a major boner. I did like how Zod was ruthlessly killed in the end. I've always thought the no-killing policy of super heroes to be lame.
I give it a solid 9. Total kickassery. I don't know why yalls be fighting over this...
