Which monsters? On the BET special last night, they mentioned that the movie has very little CG (all things considered), and that most of the monsters are real (real as in physically there on set). I know Pyramid Head, the armless creatures (forget their names), the Janitor (the creature in that clip I think), the nurses, and a few other creatures are all real (not CG). I think I saw one of the bugs as well on set, although I imagine that the scene with all the bugs on the floor was CG.
does this have that scene with silence and the sword dragging on the floor (or do any of your other clips?). b/c i kinda wanna see that w/o seeing whatever spoilers you are talking about (i probably won't even see the movie, but if i do, i'd rather not know too much).

Then click on the video image in the middle. I'm in a hurry and can't get the video to load up quickly, but I think that is the right one. I don't think there are really any spoilers either, or at least nothing major.
Did anyone get this clip working? I was in a hurry, so I thought I just wasn't giving the video enough time to load. But I just tried it again and still nothing. The video on the right works fine, but not the one in the middle. Kind of funny since I'm now practically 100% sure that it was the video I was referring to (and sadly, that was the only place I knew where to find it). There are some variations to the scene in some of the clips I posted (where PH sends his sword through the door), but that all started too late so that you couldn't hear Pyramid Head's sword. BTW, I should note that I may have been a little extreme by mentioning the word spoiler. It wasn't like there were clips of people dying (except for maybe the last clip I posted in the OP, which probably deserves to be marked a spoiler). The clips I linked to mostly came from "Making of..." specials or clips you'd see on a talk show. For example, the ~7 minute clip I posted explains why Rose and her daughter are going to Silent Hill; not exactly "Snape kills Dumbledore" spoilers, but some people might prefer to find that out during the movie. If you're fine seeing that kind of stuff, then those clips probably won't spoil anything too much. Still, there are a ton of clips out there, so if you end up watching them all, you'd have seen a large portion of the movie. Some scenes might not have the same affect on you when you see it on the big screen (like when a monster comes out or something like that), so be weary of that.
I don't know for certain, it was very fast moving, the clip I remember seeing. Much too fast to be anything real anyway. If it was merely a small sample of the movie and most of it is real, maybe it will be good. I just assumed with all the weird as hell type monsters that Silent Hill had there would be a lot of CG.

Movie looks like of intresting from the Movie trailers, the TV spots are horrible. I'm gonna check it out this weekend don't have my hopes up too high because it's still a Video Game movie. Played part 1 and 2 and from the looks of the Movie trailer it looks like they captured the feel of the game, mostly the atmosphere
I've read a few reviews/impressions today. It seems like movie critics who never played the games didn't care for the movie (not liking the "levels" from the games and thinking gamers will ignore the flaws just to see people get killed), while people who played the games seemed to like/love it (usually accompanied with a "best video game movie adaptation by far" line). I guess that is about what I expected; I just didn't want it to suck. It sounds like there's a little twist to the ending as well. That should be interesting to see.
From the reviews it sounds like if you played the game it might be a pretty fun movie, but then again a bad movie is a bad movie.
I played and beat 1, 2, and 3. Played 4 but got too frustrated to really get deep into it. I just saw the movie this afternoon and although I'd give it about a 7/10 on a general movie scale, I give it a 9/10 on a videogame movie scale. Definitely the best videogame-to-movie adaptation yet. Still room for improvement though. Some scenes were so-so, but there were a handful of VERY well done sequences that make the movie worth seeing. Overall, I recommend it.

Although as recently as 1981 there were over 1,000 residents, the population has dwindled to 11 as a result of a 40 year old mine fire burning beneath the borough, one of at least 38 in Pennsylvania alone. If you were driving north on route 61 in the heart of the Anthracite coal region in Pennsylvania, you may have come across a detour of 61 at the top of a hill in a community called Ashland. Thinking nothing of it you would have followed the detour signs that took you around some possible road construction or a bridge being worked on. You're then reconnected with Rt. 61 again. Many have followed this path in recent years with little knowledge of the on going story of this little detour and the town that no longer is really a town. If you had disregarded the detour signs and make the right that 61 north takes through Ashland your first clue that something isn't right would be the abrupt end to route 61 as it once was. This road closure seems to be more than just a little construction up around the bend. At closer inspection it would seem to be a more permanent close of the road. If you were to look to your right and follow a small, slightly less engineered road down and around the closed route 61 it would re-emerge at the beginning of the story. Centralia. The ruins of Centralia Pennsylvania no longer exists on some maps. The story began sometime in 1962 along the outskirts of town when trash was burned in the pit of an abandoned strip mine, which connected to a coal vein running near the surface. The burning trash caught the exposed vein of coal on fire. The fire was reported and thought to be extinguished but it apparently wasn't. The coal then began to burn underground. That was in 1962. For the next two decades, workers battled the fire, flushing the mines with water, excavating the burning material, backfilling, drilling again and again in an attempt to put the fire out or at least contain it. All efforts failed to do either. By the early 1980s the fire had affected about nearly 200 acres. An engineering study concluded in 1983 that the fire could burn for another century or even more and "could conceivably spread over an area of approximately 3,700 acres." Over 43 years and 40 million dollars later the fire still burns through old coal mines and veins under the town and the surrounding hillsides. The fire, smoke, fumes and toxic gases that came up through the back yards, basements and streets of Centralia practically ripped the town apart. Today Centralia is a near-ghost town with only a few remaining hold-outs who refused government offers of compensation. Most of the homes were condemned and residents were relocated over the years with grants from the federal government although some die-hards refused to be bought out and some still remain in the town. According to some sources, this in turn has hampered plans to attempt a more drastic approach to containing the mine fires. These plans are to dig a 500 foot deep trench around the town to try to stop the expansion of the fire into a much larger vein of coal. Studies have shown that if the fire is not contained it will threaten the neighboring town of Ashland, less that two miles away. Many people including former (and current) residents of Centralia insist that there is more to this story than meets the eye. Some believe that the rich deposits of coal beneath the town itself is the reason for the forced relocation of the towns people and to force the town to go defunct, giving up its mineral rights. The stories around what is happening here vary depending on who you talk to or what you read.
I saw the movie today, and I pretty much feel the same way as ClutchCityReturns: a decent-to-good movie for non-gamers, but for fans of the SH games, the movie was awesome. The dialogue could have been a lot better; some of the lines were a little awkward, causing the audience to giggle at them. The creatures were awesome (especially Pyramid Head), and I loved how the put the music from the games into the movie (was worried about how/if they'd do it). The plot had a lot a similarities with SH1, although with some minor (and some not-so-minor) changes, which I thought were fine and made it interesting (didn't want to see the exact same plot over again). The premise from SH1 is still more or less intact, and in some ways, I liked how it was handled in the movie (how Alessa was treated). Some of the critic reviews were a bit puzzling IMO. I could understand not liking the dialogue, the pacing, the length, maybe the story (hard to say since I played the games), and some things like that, but there were some strange things mentioned as well. I think I remember reading a review that complained about this movie being anti-Bush or something like that, and another complaining about why the town is called Silent Hill when it isn't silent or on a hill. Some complained about the CG/special effects (possibly on monsters that may not have even been CG?), while other reviews said the CG/special effects may have been the only good thing about the movie. Seems like a wide variety of opinions for the movie ...or some of the them were pissed about the private screenings being cancelled. At least the movie is up to ~30% right now, although that's still WAY lower than it deserves IMO. I did question some parts of the plot, but after reading speculation on how a 2nd movie could be done, I'm not going to question what Gans had/has planned; some of the things that might seem like "filler" might turn out to be pretty important in SH2 (if it is made). IIRC, he did say something about originally wanting to do a SH2 adaptation, but he decided that he needed to setup that story with this movie.
Apparently this is because of two factors: 1) the religious nutjobs that caused all these problems and the reference to people being manipulated by fear 2) the director made some extreme anti-Bush comments regarding religion and the use of fear by the media However, I dont think that the movie has W show up as Samael and sacrifice any babies or anything like that. Just enjoy the movie.
I read a pierce Roger Avery did for Script Magazine about how he came to be involved with the movie and the writing of it and Gans was definately talking about how he would stick it to Bush with this movie. If you are going to make a political statement, at least make it in a really good movie. Anyways, I did like how Avery described him, he said he was like Quentin in the fact that he was this enthusiastic guy with a encyclopedia's worth of knowledge about movies, except that Gans also know just as much about comic books, music, art, history, etc.
I didn't know about the comments Gans had made previously, although I don't know if I would have noticed anything anti-Bush about the movie anyway. There are some things about religion, but that stuff was in the games IIRC (most of which were developed or being developed before Bush was even president), at least to a degree. I just think it is quite a reach to say that the movie can be seen as strongly anti-Bush, especially since out of all the impressions/reviews I've seen, only one actually comments about it. IIRC, that review gave the movie a low score because it was so obvious and blatant, and yet no one else even mentions it AFAIK. BTW, I didn't even notice the user review scores for SH via IMDB and RottenTomatoes. IMDB has a weighted average of 7.4, while RT has SH at 80% (average rating 7.3). That's about what I'd rate it (7-8 out of 10), and I've seen similar ratings from people on other boards (for reference, those scores are a lot better than the other video game movie user reviews).
