If possible can this thread be a sticky?

Anyway, I would like whoever wants to review a movie old or new come in here and give a brief or detail review(s) if you like about the movies you've seen recently. You could also voice your opinion on the movies the posters had seen as well. Anyway I was on my vacation and rented some movies I like to share my thoughts on. They are...

    No spoiler unless noted otherwise.

    1. Godsend (suspense drama and sometimes scary)
Its about a couple(Greg Kinear,Rebecca Stamos) who had lost their son to a car accident and wants a close doctor friend(Robert Dinero) to do an illeagal cloning procedure of the boy....but something went terribly wrong after the kid was born. This is your typical Six sense and The Ring type thriller where there are moments that will make you jump and think through out the movie of what went wrong. Acting is ok, and the plot is well crafted, its just been done many times before. If this had been release before Six Sense it would've gotten a better ratting. grade: C

    2. The Day After Tomarrow (Sci-Fi adventure)
About a climatologist(Dennis Quaid) tries to figure out a way to save the world from abrupt global warming. He must rescue his young son in New York, which is being taken over by a new ice age.
Is it just me or Dennis Quiad is one of the worst actor around? All of his movie is the same person and he has the same pesonality/acting in all of them, i think thats cheap. Anyway the movie is pretty entertaining despite the weak plot and actors. I admit the special effects which are some of the best kept me drawn into the movie than anything else. If you don't take this movie seriously then you will be entertained... beside the special affects are worth seeing just for that. grade: C-

    3. Taking Lives (suspense thriller)
About an FBI profiler(Angelina Jolie) tries to capture a serial killer(Ethan Hawke) who cleverly uses his victims indentity to lure him away from authority. The first 10 min or so of the movie was very interesting and went down hill from there...it just drags on with no purpose other than to gain more history and background of the killer and a lot of them were unneccessary. Interest level rises again at the last 10 min of the movie with the very suprising yet a little cheesy ending. Angelina acting is at her best here, its too bad the middle part of the movie don't make good use of her acting. Hwake is good as usual, a different side that I never seen from him. grade: C

    4. Phone Booth (suspense thriller)
Awesome movie...wish I had seen it earlier when it hit the theatres. Its about a guy(Colin Farrel) who rutinely uses the same phone booth in a New York(?) suburb when this time things are diffrent and he becomes trapped by means of an unsuspected caller(Kiefer Sutherland) where his life and fate is depended on him. This is a very stimulating movie from beganing to end that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The plot is simple but effective and Colin's acting are some of his best here where he pretty much runs a one man show. Unique and refreshing. Rent it! Grade: A
My g/f hated this movie, go figure....

    5. Man on Fire (Drama Suspense, action)
About an ex CIA worker named John(Denzel Washington) who was hired to be a bodyguard for a little girl by her parents in Cuba(?) b/c the kidnapped rate was high. (spoilier alert!!!) The girl unfortunately gets kidnapped by some mobsters disguise as poilce officers and John who thought she was dead will put his life on the line to get revenge for her. This is a pretty strong and emotional movie showcasing the relationship between a little girl and a man who tries to overcome hes troubled past. A good all around movie with some nice camera work. This was sapposed to be a true story but maybe it was exageratted too much in the movie as some parts are non-believeable in a real life sitution. Grade: B-

I don't think this is such a bad idea (though not really necessary to make into a sticky).

It's easier to get a feel for how you yourself might like a film when people you're kind of familiar with it review it as opposed to the pieces on imdb.

One negative: it would get extremely cluttered lumping all films into one thread.

That and most movies already get their own thread, but it's an interesting idea. :)

It would certainly be refreshing to see more older movies get critiqued other than the more popular ones that are always brought up.

I just saw "City of God" and Iwas blown away. I normally don't like sub-titled foreign movies, but I started watching at 2am after work and stayed awake until it was over. It is about the rise and fall of different gangs in an urban Brazilian slum (Rio?). It turns out that it is also based on a true story. I highly recommend it.

i don't know anything about ray charles (except for the fact that he's blind and plays piano) or listen to his music but i am very interested in seeing this movie. i think it has alot to do with the praise jamie foxx has been given for his role. plan on checking it out this week.
