Haven't seen the movie, only the preview and that deleted doctor scene. Regarding the "rear your child" trailer, is that supposed to be funny? It's something a 13 year old would laugh at. DUUDE WANTZ TO BUT RAPE THE KID LOLZ!!!11 Someone please explain how the movie is actually amusing compared to that unfunny, silly, and immature bit.
It wasn't really written, however. They would improvise most of the scenes. Apatow would just yell, "say something different," and they would have a number of different takes for each scene. It was sort of like a Christopher Guest film.
For such a mature sense of humor, I would think that you would get that the actual "rear your child" line isn't what's supposed to be funny, it's the absurdity of a grown man saying it. They all don't high five eachother after he says it. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5qw0-aBAVc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5qw0-aBAVc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
great movie i was not expecting much from it from the trailer but seeing it makes me realize i was an idiot i have loved everything apatow has done prior to this movie so why would i like this? whats funny is how apatow uses so many of the same actors in all of his shows/movies, its like they've become a troupe of sorts i mean seth rogan was in freeks and geeks,undeclared,40-year old and now this.. martin starr (beard man) was in apatow's freaks and geeks jason segal--another apatow veteran of freeks and geeks and undeclared leslie mann-played the drunk girl in 40 yr old and was the hot substitue on freeks paul rudd-same deal jonah -40 year old and will be one of the leads in superbad (a seth rogan film) jay baruchel- undeclared even some of the celeb cameos--steve carell from 40 year old and james franco from freeks seriously i was praying linda cardellini would pop out and make a cameo as well just so i could see her pretty face but its probably cool for apatow working with people he likes and enjoys i am sure making films/shows are much easier for him as for the movie i would recommend it to anyone who wants a comedy i thought it was really good. if you cant make it out to the theaters to see it, definitely rent it or "acquire it through other means" to watch at home
in my opinion, everything Judd Apatow touches is pure GOLD... this movie "Knocked Up" was mostly improvised, as was 40YOV as previosly mentioned... Mr. Apatow is the new King of Comedy, and his track record proves it... I was reading a New York Times Magazine article and they said that his projects that he produced, wrote, or directed are nearing the Billion dollar mark in worldwide sales... In depth article on Judd Apatow- NYT Magazine video with Apatow and Seth Rogan he got his start interviewing comedians for his high school radio staion... some of his early interview subjects include Garry Shandling, Steven Wright and a young Jerry Seinfeld... Judd Apatow interviews Jerry Seinfeld he got his start in Hollywood on the set of "The Larry Sanders Show", and Garry Shandling quickly became his mentor... his TV series have always been critically acclaimed and then quickly cancelled, including "The Ben Stiller Show" "Freaks & Geeks" and "Undeclared" but his transition to film has been nothing but superior... projects he Produced include: The Cable Guy, Anchorman, 40YOV, Talladega Nights, and the upcoming "Superbad" and "Walk Hard" what makes Knocked Up great, its not just a classic slapstick comedy, it has that Apatow touch that makes it so REAL... they show real problems with relationships, marriages, friendships, and pregnancies... PURE GOLD
i agree. that wasnt very funny in the preview. it's not having a mature sense of humor, the comment just isnt that funny.....now if they high fived each other after saying THAT WOULDVE BEEN FUNNY
Funny movie, and also gripping from a relationship standpoint. It cuts to the bone and through the bull**** that married people try and overlook. That birth scene was a little much though. And i was sitting behind a couple who had their 7 year old daughter with them. The mom was trying to cover her eyes basically the whole time. Jesus, you'd rather have your daughter be traumatized in front of a movie screen then shell out a few bucks for a babysitter? That kind of was irking my movie going experience. This is exactly why I usually see movies on a tuesday afternoon.
estimates have it coming in #2 behind pirates with 29.3 million. i bet word of mouth helps, and it's week 2 drop off isn't as severe as spidey, shrek, or pirates. pirates dropped 62.4 percent this week.
Glad you said this. There were some seriously BRUTAL scenes in it relating both to friendships and relationships. That line Rogan said to Rudd about him being such a ****ty husband that his girlfriend was afraid to marry him was hard core. I was surprised at how raw some of those scenes were for a comedy. I sat directly behind two women and one woman had her TODDLER with her. Seriously, the girl was about 3 or 4. That was pretty disturbing. The theater I was in had a LOT of women in it and there was a lot of "you tell him, sister" stuff being shouted. Added an interesting element to the experience.
o/~ "Here I am... ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE..." o/~ " Now THAT's how you get PINK EYE " ^Vegas Scene "Believe me... I would tear... that... ass... up" - Darryl from The Office "Are you guys together...? - Ryan from The Office I found myself laughing at many parts where single or kidless parents in the audience did not laugh. I have two girls and have been with my wife for a long time, enough to be in almost all of the situations of that movie (YES, even the knocked up before marrying scene with the kiddos). Most of the situation in there are even funnier if you're married and have the kids. For example, the entire CAR BABYSITTING scene... that's all hilarious if you've had kids. It hit home, since I have two girls like the couple in the movie does, and you kinda feel bad for Allison. My wife and I laughed at many arguments between the married couple and the "bad husband" guy... Spoiler Did you think that the guy was cheating on the wife when they went to stake him out at the other house? I didn't think so. I told my wife: "He's not cheating... c'mon... he just wants to get away...". I could not believe that there was this dude next to me that said: "What is that?" when they had the names of the players on the board. Question: Spoiler What was the purpose of the earthquake? Just to show all the junk Ben had? rodrick, I recognized her as soon as I saw her... I thought I saw the character before. "Two A-holes go to an Adoption Center" was hilarious. I give it 8 of 10, but it dragged in a bunch of places and, like everyone else, I wished they would have kept that Dr. Kuni scene in there.
I saw it last night and somebody brought a baby to the movie that kept crying. I mean, sh*t, why do people do that? They never even bothered going out into the hall to calm the baby down, they just let it cry and whimper. I wanted to slap those people. Anyways, I thought it was great, just as funny as 40 YOV and I'm sure the DVD will have lots of deleted scenes and lots of improv between Rudd and Rogen.
Saw it on friday and pretty much enjoyed it through out. Think the movie could have been trimmed a bit but besides that I really enjoyed the movie. I thought Leslie Mann was awesome in it. Like a few of you mentioned, some of the relationship stuff was pretty raw and real, it made me enjoy the movie more though
Swoly, Spoiler The purpose of the earthquake was in what Ben did when it went down. He had his pregnant girlfriend in his bedroom but completely forgot she was even there. He clutched his bong and got out before she did. That, and to set up her finding the baby books.
"That's not your vagina, that's your *******!"... I mean, seriously, if there was ever a more funny line in a movie, I'd like to hear it...
A-Train, how about "I googled murder" - It's not funny per se, but it is funny when you see who says it. "Tight... [hand gesture] TIGHT... [hand gesture] TIGHT..." "... if you... read the scale... and... maybe you take off 20 lbs. from it..." - i forgot the exact words, but that comes close. The delivery is awesome, though. And here I thought you'd give a good review, A-Train. I should have known it.
