I saw the sneak preview of Hustle & Flow tonight. If you are a fan of dirty south crunk hip hop music, you will love this movie! There will be no spoilers in this post, but I highly recommend checking it out. It won the Sundance Audience Award for best dramatic picture.
There's no kinda music I love more then dirty south crunk hip hop, but this movie seemed like it was an imitation of 8 Mile. I probably won't see it in theatres, but I'll see it sometime.
i saw the preview and kept waiting for it to be a joke. cmon the nerdy white guy from road trip??????? you cant be serious. id go see it but i dont want to get stabbed for walking out after 5 minutes seriously. it looked terrible. only slickvik would go see it. you heard me slickvik. all out board war. im heel.
Its funny you say that because they had a booth out in the front of the entrance of the movie with like 4 security people. 2 people had metal detectors, frisking everyone that came in to see the movie. They claimed it was because it was a sneak preview and they wanted to make sure that no one came in with video equipment to bootleg the movie. This was at the Edwards Theater on Weslayn. They actually confiscated my cel phone because it was a camera phone. I had to pick it up at the end of the movie. People weren't too happy with the metal detector wands and the women having to open up their purses to be searched. Once inside watching the movie, there were several security people walking around with nightvision scopes watching the audience. Kinda made me uncomfortable. This movie cost under 3 million dollars to make. Who really cares if it gets bootlegged a week before its release date??? Sounds fishy to me.....
holy crap you have 21000 posts! i thought only RM95 had gotten past 20k. i would've had you pegged for only 15 or 16k.
Yeah, they were full of it. The only time our theater has ever ramped up security since I've been working (this is my third summer) is when a black movie that is expected to do well comes out. But, based on the content of this movie, I don't expect the opera crowd to come out on opening weekend...The worst part about it will be underaged kids trying to get into the movie without being accompanied by their parents. You're actually suppose to ID people 3 times for rated R movies (at the box office, where they take your ticket, and at the auditorium door), but I have a feeling that this will be one of the few times that we actually ID like we are suppose to. We normally only have 2 highway patrolmen working security on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but I've been told we'll have 3 security officers on the weekend, and maybe even one or two during the entire first week the movie is out.
you wanna see a crazy documentary about a hip hop craze going through the ghettos of L.A., go see David LaChapelles "RIZE"
The movie's great. Saw it a couple of months ago. Even if you don't like hip-hop, you'll still love it. Think "Rocky" meets "8 Mile" meets "Superfly."
If you ever heard Lil Jon, that's what people call Krunk music. Its rap with a lot of bass, usually fast beats, and usually hyper loud vocals. That's the best way I can technically describe it.
Thanks, I did a google search for it and the first result was the urban dictionary. It didn't have a definition for the whole phrase so I had to look it up word by word and I was getting an odd picture of what dirty south crunk hip hop music is. A little slut from the region with many stereotypes, some true, some not. She/he likes crazy and drunk break dancing, emceeing, (rapping) graffiti, and turntablism.
Yeah, I guess that's it basically. The beats aren't always fast, but they are full of base and it definitely hits. The Dirty South rap is music from the South, obviously, and those rappers include the guys from the ATL - T.I., Lil' Scrappy, Lil Jon; Houston - Slim Thug, Mike Jones, etc... Lil' Wayne, guys from STL and on... Some of the best "crunk" rap songs are "Yeah" by Usher, "Damn" by Youngbloodz, "Goodies" by Ciara. If you've ever been to a club, then you've heard those songs. Also, all those songs were produced by Lil Jon - ya gotta love 'em.
