Well, I just got back from this excellent WW2 drama about the Jewish resistance in Belarussia. The acting was superb, the storyline fantastic, and the drama intense. I am a sucker for period pieces about WW2, but this was Schindler's list like....such personal tragedy, and lack of humanity. But, if you like stories of survival, and people who hold onto their humanity while their entire world crumbles, this movie will satisfy you. In a, walk out of a silent theater where everyone is snifling kind of way. 3.5 stars out of 4. DD
How did it compare with the directors other stuff? I absolutely love "Glory" and "The Legends Of The Fall"..... Even "The Last Samurai" I liked alot....
I usually love almost all movies, especially ones involving war..But I hated this movie, couldn't get into it at all. Everything about it was over the top cliche, I felt like I could have written this movie in the 9th grade. I knew what was going to happen before it happened.. The accents were bad too. I must have been missing something, because I really like Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber..but not even they can save this movie.
For stuff like this, I just get into the fact that things like this REALLY happened, and it really gets me. DD
Saw this when it first came out...pretty good, not great... It's not Schindler's list in the sense of how gripping and how that movie pulled you in...it's still good and would recommend it...
