Other than my fat ass, I need some motivation to drop about 15-20. I've got memberships at gyms, a treadmill and weights at home but I can always find something to do other than exercise.

    What to do?

Take up a new hobby that requires exertion......maybe you don't exercise b/c u find it boring.....but perhaps something like rockclimbing or chasing toads w/ a sock puppet will spark your interest...

Hey AB, Im in the same boat as you. I have memberships and I just dont do anything. I try and eat right, but always seem to eat bad here at work. If you come up with something let me know. I live out in the N-West area also and I usually workout at the (Jones&1960) location. There is a lake right next to my new neighborhood that has a track around it. I need to run around that sucker.

    Give up food.

Food is overrated, anyway. All it does is get in the way of alcohol consumption.

    Huh?

    Right!:D

There are two things I've seen which truly work.

    1) revenge

Focus on someone or something that really really pissed you off, and focus on bettering your outside to get back at him/her/it.

    2) buddy

Get a buddy and workout or (in my case) run together. The KEY thing is that this buddy CANNOT BE YOUR FRIEND! If it's a friend you're willing to slack off... and after a while you'll become friends, at which point you should find a new buddy.

In both cases, you'll need a goal. Don't just say "I want to run".. Say "I'm signing up for a 10K and I want to run it in less than XXX." And then set out to do it.

Good luck bud - aren't you tall anyway?

    Try Yoga.

    A) You'll feel better after doing it. Clean and loose and refreshed. It's mostly controlled breathing and stretching, with poses that invite you to open and center your mind. Then, you might have some motivation to lift or do abs or run or whatever after you feel good, after you're warmed up. Its great as an early morning thing, at sunrise.

    B) There are many hot women that do yoga. They wear very little clothing. They often want to help you find the right position. You may have taken a vow to be faithful, but, hey, God didn't pluck out your eyes.

    C) You can do it with your kid around. If they are over 4, they can do it from a dvd at home, then later at a studio. It's a chance for peace and quiet instead of cartoons and morning grumps.

    D) It will put you in touch with your body and make you think about what you want to work on. Your mind will be more clear for the rest of the day.

Early morning is the best time to set your exercise. If I miss that, I also find it hard to make myself set the time aside from the rest of the day's activities.

find some hot chick at the gym, and look forward to seeing her everyday. And while you are looking, do some excersizes.

Some great ideas. I'd like to lose 15-20 pounds myself. (you know, to keep up with society's ideal of skinny women... I'm tall so I don't look huge, but I know it could be better)

The irritating thing is - I do work out. Even when I'm dead tired I make myself do all kinds of stuff almost every day. Usually at least 30 minutes on a cardio machine and 2 miles of walking with light weights per day. (of course, then I come home starving and eat whatever I can find before going to bed :( ) Still, you would think the exercise would burn the calories after a while.

Actually, it will work... until next vacation when I will gain it back and repeat the cycle. :( I don't have a strong enough immediate motivation. Working out is not a fun hobby; it is boring. (Playing music is a fun hobby, not to mention one I'm naturally better at.) Having a buddy helps the most with the boredom. Still not fun to consign yourself to an hour of boredom a day.

Dieting is overrated. They all fail. Exercising is no different. We all get lazy, and decide that it's much more fun drowning your sorrows over a Collosus burger from Jack in the Box with extra large fries and a thick milkshake.

Just give up. Exercise is for "superficial" people.

I lost 35 lbs. by getting into a contest. A bunch of us put up $20 bucks apiece then set a date 3.5 months off, with the winner being the one who lost the most weight by percentage. With money on the line, it was easy to motivate myself to exercise. I won $120!
