Morey is on right now on 610. Link to listening live Recap for part 1- typed as listened. They are at break now - part two continued after break. -------------------------------------------- H: Tough loss 1 pt short DM: Tough one position to win, pretty down we didn’t get it done. H: What did you like, what should have been done differently, in 4th quarter score locked at 84, and you hold them to 19 in 4th….then final moments. DM: Played solid defense in general, tough time getting that rebound, they are a very good team, we had empty possessions without ball movement, but to be fair lakers make it hard, they are good defensively, and they countered our go to options with Aaron, and they stop a lot of passes out of that with the way they play. H: A lot of teams will try to get you guys in a half court game from the defensive side, they always found more mismatches and posted you guys. DM: Yeah, this will be a good scout game, thought they should have posted Ron more, the league is too good, teams will watch what they did and will go big, to stop us from getting Kyle and AB against us, will zone up and trap aaron especially if they have some one with length to contain him, we need to come up with something to counter teams going big like that, and trap AB. H: What can you do if they trap AB? DM: We got to keep our dribble, reverse the ball on the floor, can still play the small lineup, we were doing our best against Kobe forcing him to shoot over the top, no good solutions, with some of our players that are hurt, especially last night, we just have to figure it ou. H: Can you give us an update on Chase, and rotation etc. DM: We were worried he had a high ankle sprain, but it turns out the swelling was high, but no real sprain, we were talking about how strange it was to be worried about a rookie that was not expected to play is someone we are concerned about, he is so skilled and gives us a boost all across the lineup. H: Your thoughts on the Utah game. DM: That was exciting, Utah is struggling but will be a playoff team, only lose a handful of games in Utah, and good teams can go the whole year without winning in Utah, Chase won’t appreciate it so much but guys like Shane, or Luis and the rest of the vets will appreciate it more. Caller – Carl: Good morning, near the end of the 3rd quarter Landy was posting up down low, he scored or was fouled, why did we go away from him why was he out in the 4th? DM: Carl is expected to be a go to guy, hard to get to a post up option late, Scola and Carl are our two post up options….from 6 ft and in he is a top 10 in the league, he is starting to understand that, he is a weapon we can use more and plan to use more. H: This is a team that will be all about flow, got to have the guys all playing as one…. DM: Yeah, Chuck, Carl and Luis were our best players yesterday, Chuck and Scola with double doubles and Carl scoring in the post. Scola getting in a rhythm as primary post option, Carl is a devastating one on one, coach will go with whomever is helping, we can not have Chuck off the floor right now, because after him our bigs defense is just not good enough. H: Landon, Josh and Ocho-texto coming up, and what would it be like to have an unlimited budget like the Yankees….and talk about he alternate jerseys. ------------------------------------------------------------- Part 2 coming up. DD
More evidence that the Rockets consider Landry to be their best post up guy. Morey says they consider Landry "top 10" from 6-10 feet. And he said that Landry is a more devastating player 1-on-1.
Its basketball IQ overall. Morey just said that in that last play, the play was to isolate Brooks so that they couldn't send a double team as easily. Landry didn't realize, and he came to set a pick.
Yeah, interesting to hear that. He didn't say Carl didn't realise, he said he wasn't told so he came to set the pick.
Part 2 - ---------------------------------------------------------------- H: Rockets fall in OT last night but before we go to the phones if you were like the Yankees GM, if you had an unlimited budget, would you like that? We hate the Yankees. DM: Take my wife, she really hates the Yankees..lol….Brian has been given his budget and made the most of it, but you can still screw it up, so take your hat off to him…good job by Brian……we have 35 million on the floor fighting a team that has 90 on the floor…hats off to Brian on championship. H: What is your wife’s favorite team. DM: My wife was a fantasy phone operator – not the kind your listeners are thinking about- lol….my wife is a big sports fan our honeymoon was at the Olympics…in Atlanta….she is a big sports fan. H: Does she give you advice on players? DM: No, but she knows the rules etc…when we tell her about trades she goes how does that work, this guy is a poison pill etc. Josh: Just want to give you congratulations from Landry to Brooks to Scola, all the moves have worked out, Brooks is more like an undersized 2 guard, and Budinger looks great…..it was good to see Dream last night, Lopez didn’t want to hear that? Lopez? WHAT??? I love dream ! DM: Thanks, but I want to give credit to the coaching staff, very few staffs bring people along like this…..AB, Carl, Chuck….very underated thing that the coaching staff is doing with our young players. Landon : Love the show, graduated and listen to only sports radio. DM: Sports radio and the weather those are the 2 things. Landon: really appreciate the effort on the court, especially Hayes on offense, but the last 2 possession in the 4th quarter and the last possession in OT, where it looked like the same play, and the Lakers trapped us, and it worked to perfection ….the other 4 Rockets were standing there like statue until it was too late. DM: Yeah, we talked about that, but we are just not going to have the players the Lakers have, we will figure it out, but we need to give ourselves a lead to figure it out. Ocho-Texto – Hayes quickest hands in league, call him baby Mailman….callers asking about Tmac, saying if he was there the game would be different, I understand the Go to man….but equally important is the GO to man willing to share the ball….and responsibility, is TMac willing to be that type of player. DM: You make a good point, but when Tmac comes back and is healthy, he will help us he has the size and passing ability, Trevor has it too, he made a good pass late. But you don’t get those players for one or two plays, once Tmac is back and ready to help, it will be a big lift. Kit in Austin – I had a question, maybe better for Adelman. – seems the problem we are going to face with AB is late in games teams will double team him and with his lack of height, …why call a pick and roll, when you can isolate him and put shooters in the corners instead? DM: Coach and I talked about that, we wanted to save our timeout, Carl came over on his own and set the screen, Coach told AB we wanted to ISO to make the trap harder, the caller is right, that is something we can do to counter it. H: OK is no easy pickings. DM: The good thing is they tuckered out Kobe the night before…LOL…I mean how good is he BTW? Sometimes you just have to recognize greatness for what it is, like DaDakota on Clutchfans….we have OKC coming up, so far the early schedule has been intense, they are a very good team up and comer, we have to maintain our intensity, as that is how we will need to play to win this year. H: Alternate jersey and Yao signing at the Rockets shop 10-2 on Saturday. Looking forward to tomorrow night. DM: Thanks for having me on. -------------------------------------------------- Done....enjoy. DD
You're welcome, sometimes people can't listen on their computers, etc, so it helps to have a recap I think. DD
Thanks for the recap. I feel a little better knowing it was miscommunication on the last play rather than poor coaching.
