It will be a tough decision in regards to signing goran, but in the end i have full confidence in morey to make the right decision. The irony of all this is that if Lowry didn't get injured he'd probably only get around 4-5 million.
I guess that would be a patchy way to solve the predicament, but it still has it's problems and is far from an optimal use of either player.
what about Sergio Lull?? isn't he coming over soon? i would just save the money on signing dragic and bring over Lull. Everyone was going crazy on here when he won the MVP a few months ago!
As I said, the question is going to be what happens during the remainder of this season and, we hope, playoffs. If Dragic's performance does not see any drop-off, teams, including this one, will feel safer about paying him. If his performance drops off, however, people will have some doubts.
Very unlikely. His buyout plus contract would be very costly. Next summer is probably the best time to bring him over. Its best for both parties to let him stay one more year when its better for everyone.
Personally - I've seen enough = almost 18 and 9 as a starter - with size to defend not to mention clutch shooter, penetrates deep into paint with control and vision. Pay the man - makes Lowry expendable IMO - Morey also said he watched Llull and referred to him as a future rocket guard. I love Lowry - but Dragic has been incredible. I'm a believer.
It won't drop off, the role he is playing right now is pretty much what his game is set for, having the ball in his hands and making all the reads etc. This is perfect for his style of play. DD
I think a darkhorse in the game for dragic is the raptors.. - they have been saving cap space for a while like us and since they probably wont be able to sign a big time player... they will throw some solid money at dragic
We do not need to free up anyone to sign him. We can pay him what we want. I agree we shouldn't over pay for him. But what is too much. I say 10 mil is the best deal we will get on this board and everyone screams no way. Dragic will not come cheap. Cuban offered Nash 9 mil a year almost 10 years ago and the Suns offered a little more and Cuban refused to match and the rest is history. In Nash's first MVP season he averaged 18 pts 10.5 assists 4.2 rebounds shooting 51% and 43% from behind the arc. In the last 14 games Dragic has averaged 18 pts, 9 assists, 3.5 rebounds shooting 53% and 44%from behind the arc. This doesn't even include the fact that Dragic is a better defender with double the steals of Nash (ok now it does). Cuban later said letting Nash walk was one of his biggest mistakes. I wouldn't give Dragic max money but if we could get him for 6 years for for 63 mil I would jump on it. Don't play the stupid chicken game. People on her say it's only a small sample... can he sustain it. And I say what are you talking about? He isn't sustaining it he is learning on the fly and getting better. In the last 3 games he has averaged 22 pts on 62% shooting 55% behind the arc. He is improving and what he does is on both sides of the court. He is playing long minutes and turning the ball over less. In the last 2 games he only had 2 to's. And did I mention he is clutch. He steps up in big games and big situations. And he does it against elite teams and elite pg's. He gets in their face and annoys them. Dragic is a keeper and if I could sign him for 10 mil today I would do it and be very happy. And I would keep Lowry too and play him at the shooting guard. he would be my starting SG. Everyone is dreaming of Rivers and Lamb and they are prototypical SG's but would they be all around better then Lowry. Lowry and Dragic can play D and Lowry's better than most SG's at rebounding. Actually they could even alternate the pg duties every other play. That would drive the other teams crazy. That's my take
Gragic seem to love it here..and loyal...espcially this is where he got more credit mostly players love to stay where they shine there skills at...Good to hear Lee be back.
MOrey loves Lowry but Gragic to..hard descions..he probaly gon sign Gragic to....cause were trying to be a champion contender but cant say nothin till then lets worry bout rest of the season.
I can't disagree about Morris. Everyone knows I wanted Kawhi Leonard. But I do see what Morey was going for. I think Morris has the potential to be an elite scorer. I'm just not sure he can do it at the 3. ANd we already have a better scorer at the 4. I think Morey must have been more convinced he could do it at the 3 or the risk reward was better. He still may be right. The only other problem I have is Morris may have a bit of the knucklehead gene in him. Not bad but enough to make me shy away from him a bit. I think Morey overlooks that if the player has an elite skill at something. TWill is an example. Do not give away 1st picks for someone else's problems. But as I said I think he is learning and getting better and I am not interested in hiring another GM.
I don't think his skills will drop off, or his intelligence. One concer I have is that during his 16 games as a starter, he's shooting 52% from the field, with 58% on 2s and 44% from the 3 pt line. These numbers are well above what he was averaging previoiusly. Do they reflect a sudden rise in shooting ability or a hot streak?
Yeah, I agree with you here, I doubt he will average that high a percentage - and will probably come down a bit. Still, I think the way he plays the game on both ends, and with energy is exactly what Morey was saying when he wanted Kyle to play hard all the time like he used to coming off the bench. Dragic does it all game long....and he is uber effecient....got to keep this man....just have to. DD
Dragic's TS% as a starter in 16 games this year = .650. This kind of efficency, if kept up over the course of the season, would be insanely good for a PG. Steve Nash, for example, has only had 1 season in which he averaged more than .650 on TS%.
I'm sure his averages will go down a bit but his shooting percentage has been 47 percent the whole time he's been with us and he shot over 50% from downtown last year after the trade. I don't think his play will drop much unless he gets injured. I just think his confidence is sky high and its showing up in his averages. He doesn't hesitate to shoot when he's open.
