Senegal lost their semi-final match-up on Thursday to Nigeria 78-55. Malick scored 10 pts (5/10 FG), had 11 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Senegal also fell in the 3rd place game to Egpyt 81-79. In that game, Malick finished with 9 pts, 7 rbs.

He will return to the states sometime in the next week when it is expected a decision will be made by the Rockets.

The stats sheets coming from Egypt are somewhat non-traditional, and the Team Stats sheet does not have Min/G on it, but looking at the box scored he playing right around 25 minutes per game. He finished the first five games (group play) 4th overall in rebounding.

That's really good for only 25mins per game. I know he is raw, but wasn't Amare considered raw?

What he lacks in pure talent, he makes up in athleticism and hustle. I wouldn't mind having him on the bench, especially if it makes Griffin and Taylor sweat a little.

I also think it couldn't hurt to put him on our roster. He'd probably learn quicker practicing with our players than he would playing against mostly inferior opponents. Still though, I don't expect him to be Amare or anything.

It would be nice to have Badiane here, he'd probly learn quicker too. Badiane could be put into games just to change the tempo and energy, but only put him on the roster if no other quality FA's are worth picking up for the veteran's min.

When the Rockets were picking Malick Badiane they must have known that he is not ready for the NBA right now. Any expectations in that direction are far away from reality. Badiane played in our 2nd divison and averaged 11.7 ppg and 9 rpg against a lot weaker competition. He is no Dirk Nowitzki who helped his 2nd division team to reach the german 1st division and was the topscorer of both divisions. Right now he isn't a first row big man in Germany, so he won't be an average big man in the NBA. He has a lot of physiscal talent and a good work ethic, but he is still to unexperienced and to raw to make it in the NBA. I remember another big man from Germany, who was drafted last year in the 1st round by Seattle. His name is Peter Fehse and also played in the german 2nd and 3rd division. Right now he is playing for an average german 1st division team and will be having difficulties to get a lot of pt in the next season. It's the same story. Extremely talented big man from Europe, but still to unexperienced and raw for the NBA. He is a long term prospect at best.

Malick Badiane has a totally different style of playing, but he is still 2 or 3 years away from playing in the NBA, too. I think it would make no sense letting this guy try his luck right now. For his developement it would be much better to let this kid play 1-2 more seasons in europe. Here he can get pt, learn the basics and gain self confidence. He won't help the team right now either.

Thanks for the heads-up, GermanRoxFan, and welcome to the BBS. :)

You have to understand (you probably do) how concerned a lot of the people here (the vast majority! ;) ) are about our 2 forward spots. It explains a lot of the wishful thinking about Badiane playing and contributing for the Rockets this season. Perhaps the Rocks still have a move up their sleeve before the season starts to address it.

But we also need to pick up a vet PG to backup and "tutor", hopefully, Steve Francis. Moochie has played his way out of the 2nd PG spot, imo. I really think there is a move or 2 to be made... for more role players, if not someone better through trade.

Is there anyone in the rockets organization who gives him advice on how to improve his game so that he can practice it against his opponents over there?

That's what I'm saying. There's no use playing in Europe, he's MUCH better off playing garbage minutes in the NBA, training with NBA players, and watching NBA players than playing a whole lot in the German Second Division.

Badiane has good offense, despite what we were told. We saw that in summer leagues. Now, to me, he'll never be a starter, but he can reach his highest level if he stays here and let the Rockets staff mold him into a good player. He has the body and the athleticism to be a good player. He has godo hands. Everythign else is up to coaching and work ethic. he's got work ethic according to GermanRoxFan, so I think I'd ratehr have him coached over here.

I don't know if he is ready to play in the NBA or if he should stick with playing in Europe, but I would LOVE to have him on the team since he constantly hustling. Watching the 1 SL game and reading the rest gave me the impression that he can make things happend just by hustling. Even if he has no O, although it looks like he does, I would guess that he could still score a bit just based on his hustle.

That said, he may never play much here. While we will have some practices, there would be little time for it during a 12 day 6 game road trip, or whatever. Playing 25 mpg in another league may give him time to get confidence and improve his abilities. JMO.

I rather he play every day for a couple of years even if it's against lesser talent than see him scrimmage and sit. Barring injuries, I don't see JVG putting him out on the court even for a few scapping garbage minutes - which is not real NBA basketball.

Let him cure in Europe a few years.

I remember that Yao said there are not real trainning in the NBA regular season. There are so many games to play at home and on the road, they have little time to actual improve their skill. Most NBA players learn the fundamental basketball at college. They develope their strength and sense of game in the NBA. If they want to add some skill into their games, they have to do it in the summer. regular season is no good for developing fundamental skills.

Depend on what basketball skills Badiane lacks, it might be benefitial to let him play in Europe where they have more time on training.

sane, I seriously doubt badiane would be developing faster in USA... playing with tough competition and gain skill is one thing, playing with way superior competition and lose confidence is another thing -- see our beloved griffin camping outside 3 pt line.

don't confuse those two as one step in the wrong direction could cost us a possible prospect...

also, if we are talking about fundamentals, I'm of the opinion that Europe has the better coaching comparing to NBA. The guy is young, let him learn some more fundamentals for one or two years before we teach him other things. :)

About Mad Man's offense..or Malick's.....his shooting must be better than Cato's. My evidence is the two great videos that were provided here as a feature! He swishes two free throws so nicely.....unlike Cato who occasionally makes one of his jacked up free throws.

If he is not ready......let him stay in Germany. And if we really need him....we can call him up! I think he would be a good practice buddy with the other big men and can learn a lot just by watching. But he could just watch videos in Germany.

    I just thought of something.

Can we get him here anytime? EX: 50 games in, Mo and EG get hurt or arrested for drugs or whatever, can we sign him to play then? Just curious. I doubt we would or could, especially if there is some agreement to let him play out a european league season without calling on him.

We need a thrid pf in case of injuries. If there is no other pf available I'd like to see Malick staying.

IMO Badiane should play in Houston in a 1-2 years. Rockets could send over some type of supervisor making sure he's working to their plan and also reminding him he's still a rocket. I don't think the Rocks need two project PF's in the same team this season, especially if EG hasn't physically developed in the preseason. They need more of a strong veteran PF playing some garbage minutes.

Bring Mallick here. He can learn by watch and playing in practice. I think he's the kind of tough guy our team needs
