First you need to tell the BF to come clean. He has put you in a horrible position. Tell him that he can thell his girlfriend, or you can, and those are the only options. If he doesn't fess up, then you need to tell, failure to do so makes you a liar, IMO. Loyalty is great, but honesty is more important. You didn't tell him to cheat, so you should not have to live with the consequences.
