I would like to see a few of yalls mock drafts just of the lottery based on the order of records and only including players eligible. Here's mine: 1. Chicago-Eddy Curry 2. Golden State-Eddie Griffin 3. Washington-Zach Randolph 4. Vancouver-Jason Richardson 5. Atlanta-Shane Battier 6. New Jersey-Loren Woods 7. Cleveland-Troy Murphy 8. LA Clippers-Tyson Chandler 9. Detroit-Brendan Haywood 10. Boston-Jamaal Tinsley 11. Boston (Den)-Gilbert Arenas 12. Seattle-Alvin Jones 13. Houston-Rodney White
Who would you put ahead of him at the center spot? The Sonics need a Center bad with Ewing probably leaving. ------------------
If the Sonics are in need of a center, I think I would take Jason Collins, if he comes out, and Ken Johnson before Alvin Jones. ------------------
UPDATE WITH NEW ENTRIES 1. Chicago-Eddy Curry 2. Golden State-Eddie Griffin 3. Washington-Zach Randolph 4. Vancouver-Jason Richardson 5. Atlanta-Shane Battier 6. New Jersey-Loren Woods 7. Cleveland-Troy Murphy 8. LA Clippers-Tyson Chandler 9. Detroit-Sagana Diop 10. Boston-Jamaal Tinsley 11. Boston (Den)-Gilbert Arenas 12. Seattle-Brendan Haywood 13. Houston-Rodney White
Why would Vancouver draft Richardson? They are already solid at the 2 spot with Dickerson, and he won't play the 3 with Reef there. Are you just assuming that the Grizz will draft the best player available regardless of position? ------------------
Vancouver actually did some damage with a lineup that had SAR at the 4 and Dickerson at the 3, and then Damon Jones and Mike Bibby at the guards...so I could see them wanting to pick up an athletic swing guy to have in there instead of Jones, but I think if one of the high school big men are there when they pick they'll probably go that route. Actually, I could easily see the 3 big guys (Curry, Diop, and Chandler) all go in the top five...I especially don't think Chandler will drop to 8...also Gilbert Arenas is way overrated--no way he goes that early...I think he'll be lucky to get in the first round. Jefferson will be the best player out of the UA crop...I've been saying that since last year. ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated. [This message has been edited by Prempeh (edited April 27, 2001).]
Does everyone think Eddie Curry is the consensus number 1 at this point? ------------------ I hope, when they die, cartoon characters have to answer for their sins.
I don't know if you could call it a consensus, but he's definitely my #1 so far. ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.
UGH, Eddy Curry..... He will either be the next Oliver Miller, or will find a great work ethic and become an Elton Brand type. But he has a lot of work to do, and some polish to garner. His game is raw right now. Curry to Chicago? Makes little sense with Brand, Fizer, and Brad Miller. They'd assuredly dump one of those guys.....not Brand. Chicago has done some odd things in the past few years, so nothing would surprise me. ------------------ HEAD KNIGHT: We are now... no longer the Knights Who Say 'Ni'. KNIGHTS OF NI: Ni! Shh! HEAD KNIGHT: Shh! We are now the Knights Who Say 'Ecky- ecky- ecky- ecky- pikang- zoop- boing- goodem- zoo- owli- zhiv'.
Chicago has made some strange moves in the past few years. The Jerrys---that's Reins-"dork" and Krause, for you incognoscenti---blew up the team too soon. Reinsdorf is pinching pennies, maybe to make up for the years he paid Jordan $845,673,271, and Krause (aka "The Penguin") has an unbelievable ego. If he was tall and black, he'd be Cato: overpaid, no heart, and extremely deluded by his own talent. Makes me hope we can send him Cato and our picks for the #1 pick overall. I would prefer Chicago get screwed by the bouncing of the lotto balls and get the fourth pick. I don't really want Griffin too badly. I want a smart player (Battier) or a great defensive leaper who isn't a head case (Jefferson). We won't need #1 overall for these guys. I don't know if Chicago still has any interest in Cato as they once did. Sometimes I read how the Bulls don't think much of the Next Oliver Miller, then I read how they like Baby Shaq. Krause delights in confounding people who try to outguess him at the draft. Problem is, he plays these games too often, and no one trusts him, especially after he earned the reputation as One of the Jerrys Who Tore Down the House Michael Built. ------------------
I'm not sure who the grizz actually like, but according to my thinking, If I'm GM and there is nobody whom I consider to be a lock to be a really good center, I either trade the pick for a really good veteran leader type or pick Shane Battier. It may be overplayed in the media, but I think that it's been pretty well hashed out that there's enough tallent in Vancouver, but no glue to hold the whole mess together. ------------------
Zach Randolph #3 pick!?!? Geez, he's a good player, but, come on, he didn't even start for MSU. Personally, I feel like the Rockets (about 75% sure) will choose Richard Jefferson. I just have the feeling. I'm pretty good at the draft thing; I knew we wouldn't land Dermarr and It wasn't our year to shine (last year's draft). We were f***ing lucky SOB's to get our Stevie Franchise in '99. '00 sucked, so we have to use our picks to the fullest with this deep, deep draft. ------------------ "They couldn't shoot, rebound, or pass, but other than that, they played great!" -Bill Walton
I agree with you finalsbound,Richard Jefferson just seems to be a rudy pick. Either we move up to get battier or we take RJ at 13 because there will be no one left there that rudy likes(remember he is really against drafting on "potential" alone). Ok,heres my mock draft I think Ming will be available) 1. Chicago-Yao Ming 2. Golden State-Eddy Curry 3. Washington-Eddie Griffin 4. Vancouver-Tyson Chandler 5. Atlanta-Jason Richardson 6. New Jersey-Dasagna Diop 7. Cleveland-Shane Battier 8. LA Clippers-Loren Woods 9. Detroit-Troy Murphy 10. Boston-Jamal Tinsley 11. Boston (Den)-Brendan Haywood 12. Seattle-Rodney White 13. Houston-Richard Jefferson .... 18.Ken Johnson .... 22.Terrence Morris c-Olajuwon/Johnson/Collier pf-A.Davis/KT Sf-Jefferson/Langhi/Morris Sg-Mobley/Wizard Pg-Francis/Mooch I wouldn't mind having that roster, would you? ------------------ The time is now, step up.
1.Chicago Eddy Curry 2.Golden State Desagna Diop 3.Washington Eddie Griffen 4.Vancouver Shane Battier 5.Atlanta Jason Richardson 6.New Jersey Zach Randolph 7.Cleveland Tyson Chandler 8.LA Clippers Michael Bradley 9.Detroit Rodney White 10.Boston Loren Woods 11.Boston Jamal Tinsley 12.Seattle Richard Jefferson 13.Houston Troy Murphy ------------------
I used the nifty lotto generator. This is very early, assumed Brown, JWill come out, Yao Ming stays. 1. Warriors: Jason Williams (PG). Easy pick. Best player in the draft, and the only reason he wouldn't be #1 is if Houston, Cleveland, or NJ got the #1. Even then, they'd be offered plenty in trades. 2. Grizzlies-Tyson Chandler (SF/C). They need to blow up the team entirely. Chandler, a 7'1'' lefthanded shot-swatter, with excellent range, would absolutely fit a zone, and make a nice partner with Swift. The new breed of SF. Try and partner up Reef/Reeves for a more competent center, veterans with short contracts, or picks. 3. Hawks-Eddy Curry (PF/C). Stashing up a solid front line with an explosive backcourt. Curry won't be rushed with Ratliff, Mohammed, Wright, and Henderson in the fold, along with DJ and Kukoc at SF, and the lightning quick backcourt of Jason Terry and Brevin Knight, Hawks could turn around very quickly. 4. Bulls-Jason Richardson (SG). Tough break for Krumbs. Missed out on the other Jason, but Richardson isn't a bad consolation prize. Great improvement. He's a reach at #4, but Griffin's personality, and Fizer like 3/4 doesn't make him a great option. Kwame Brown simply isn't a center. Richardson is the best available 1, 2, or 3. 5. Wizards-Eddie Griffin (SF/PF). Griffin can play either spot, which means Washington could be one tough team, with or without MJ. White-Thomas-Griffin-Hamilton-and uh....Chris Whitney? Talk about a shotblocking front line. Alexander off the bench too. Need a PG, but too early for Tinsley. 6. Nets-Desagana Diop (C). Kwame Brown just slipped a little more. Nets needed a big physical presence next to Martin, that won't waste space, and at a mobile 7'0'' 300 lbs., Diop could be just what the doctor ordered.....or Yinka Dare part II. 7. Cavs-Kwame Brown (PF). The Cavs solidify their front line, and are a couple of swingmen short of a nice starting 5. I feel Kwame is the 2nd most NBA-ready, behind Curry, and will get some minutes next to Mihm at the 4 slot. 8. Clippers-Zach Randolph (PF). What does a young team full of swingmen, lacking a decent big man need? A 6'9'' 260 lb. PF, who can rebound with the best of them. If Kandi can get his act together, they'd be a tough team to handle. 9. Pistons-Shane Battier (SF). The Pistons need defense, and someone to hit the open shot next to Stackhouse. A hometown boy who's a senior, and ironically comes from the same school as Grant Hill? Next pick. 10. Celtics-Jamaal Tinsley (PG). The only reason he goes first, is because it'll give the Celtics more time to think about their next pick. PG is their need, and Jamaal is the 2nd best in the draft. 11. Celtics (from Denver)-Loren Woods (C). Very tough pick to make. Several choices here, but Woods is by far the best center left, and PF seems occupied by Walker, who's not quick enough to be an SF. Very tradeable pick. 12. Sonics-Troy Murphy (PF). Murphy's stock is helped by the zone rules. No PG worth taking, they're overflowing at SG, and the only possible C to take is Haywood. Bradley could be considered, but I take Murphy first. 13. Rockets-Joe Johnson (PG/SG/SF). The Rockets are crazy for not going big, right? Call it a hunch, but a 6'9'' kid with great handles will rise. Possibly higher than this. Will be extremely effective in the zone due to passing and ball handling skills. Imagine Rudy sets of Moochie, Steve, Cat, Johnson, and a center. 4 guys who could bring it up the court, which with these 8 second rules, will help shatter a press. I also have a feeling the Rockets will trade up or out, however. I like Jefferson, and he's a trendy pick, but I see his streaky (yes, it's streaky) jump shot, as well as lack of off the dribble moves, a little bit of a road block. It's scary deep when I just went through the lottery, and guys like K. Johnson, Haywood, Bradley, Jefferson, White, and (I'll regret this) Wallace aren't included. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
NIKEstrad, A couple of things I find odd about your mock draft. I don't think Williams will come out. I'm sure he's been told he'd be a definite top 3 pick, but with this year's deep draft, I'd think he'd be an even greater lock if he waited till next year. With Mercer and Artest, I'm not sure the bulls would go after Richardson. SG is not the position they need the most help at. I would think they would go after a Center. Why would the Celtics draft Woods? They already have a player they like at Center in Battier, and he is likely not to be moved considering his large contract. They also have Mark Blount, who I like, not to mention Jerome Moiso, who doesn't play Center but might play it sometimes. I would think the C's would go after a point and shooting guard. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited April 28, 2001).]
tpl-I've heard various stories of Williams recently buying a 40K car. If you have Michael Jordan whispering in your ear to come out, you probably will. He's a top 2 LOCK right now, and probably the only team he wouldn't go #1 to is Houston, because Francis at PG and Mobley at SG. He'll go #1 as a PG or an SG. The highest center on the board was Diop (Curry taken). I think #4 is a little high, because of the lack of offensive skills, you have to hope he becomes another Mutumbo, and is a huge gamble. If that situation was what happened, I think CHI would trade the pick. Battie's contract is very manageable (makes 3.6 mill next year), and he's been very inconsistent (he looked like an all-star against us). Was hurt this year, and only played 40 games, 21.1 MPG, 6.5 points, 5.8 boards. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a trade like a swap of Cato, Battie, and picks between us and Boston. I could see them taking Joe Johnson or Jefferson, moving Pierce to SG. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
I would much rather have Battie, but don't think I was trying to make him out as some great player, because he isn't. I like that he's a good shotblocker and rebounder, and his contract at 5 years 25 million, is less than Cato's. By the way, where'd you hear the stories about Williams from and what pick are the wizards projected to have? I could definitely see him coming out if that was the case, because he is from New York I believe, and that would be close to home. The only problem I have, is if his decision hinges on whether or not the Wiz will be able to pick him, I don't know if he takes that risk. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited April 28, 2001).]
