jopatmc, Looks like you and I are the only ones who agree that the Clippers moved up to get Westbrook. I don't think they would have moved up if they wanted Gordon (as most people seem to think), because I never thought he was a top 6 pick...much less top 4. jasonemilio, You're getting 's because you're putting your :'s right next to your D's. : + D =
Jerryd Bayless seems more logical for the Clippers here. They need a reliable scorer, and Bayless definitely has more potential than Westbrook. I have a feeling that Seattle is looking for a big, which means they KNOW that the Clipps will be taking Bayless, which may mean that they feel Brook Lopez might be there.
I think the Clippers wanted Westbrook so they moved up to 4 to avoid the Knicks getting him, and Seattle wanted Bayless but felt they could still get him while moving back to 7 and adding a future 1st. Or, you know...we could both be COMPLETELY wrong. I love this year's draft. It's gonna be crazy!
Yeah agreed. However, I can see the Clips taking Love too, and working a deal with Miami to trade out Elton Brand. You don't see Miami taking Mayo at 2. In fact, nobody does. But I think it's obvious. I think the only way Mayo doesn't go #2 is if Miami is able to work a trade with Minny. Miami wants Mayo. And Minny is threatening to take Mayo #3 and keep him. I think they're doing this to force Riley to take Mayo #2 so they can draft Beasley and either trade him to Memphis for Kevin Love or keep him. Seattle trading down with the Clippers kinda cinched it for me. Seattle at #4 was hoping to get a shot at Beasley. They obviously didn't see a way to get him and they could see where they could still get the guy they wanted by doing this trade with the Clippers. Seattle apparently could not get Minnesota to agree to trade Beasley to them for Kevin Love if they took Love at #4 and disrupted the Minny Memphis deal. I would bet Minny told them they did not have a player they (Minny) wanted. Either that or Minny is going to keep Beasley. I predict Beasley winds up in Minny or Memphis. I predict Mayo winds up in Miami. Rose obviously in Chicago. Love to Minny or Clippers.
I just can't bring myself to put Mayo at the #2 spot. If it were obvious, I think a lot of official mock drafts around the internet (or even just 1) would have him there. They don't. Not even Chad Ford, who updated within the last hour or two. I definitely see your reasoning, and it makes sense...it's just hard to knock a guy out of the top 2 when he's been there for months. I don't feel strongly at all that he'll play for Miami, but I do think he will get taken second.
v.1.0 score 17 v.2.0 score 17 v.3.0 (final) score 6 The more I read about trades and rumors the less I score. My final score is 6.
SCORES!!! sorry if i missed a correct pick or two along the way. i didn't get much sleep last night. also, if you posted more than one mock, i decided to only count the newest version. feel free to post the score of your original versions. 1. Looking at the scoring system (which I didn't pay attention to before), I think you put way too much emphasis on the Rockets pick. Probably should have been worth more like 4 points...maybe 5. Plus, I got the first 6 picks right (not 5) But it looks like you scored me right anyway. Too bad I didn't get points for who the Rockets actually got for the #25 pick, because I said Greene! I'm glad we did this. It made the draft a lot more exciting during times when I normally wouldn't have cared much about certain picks.
yeah looking at the scores, i realized how some people did much worse than others, but benefited from the batum at 25 pick. next year we shall know better. i only said you got the first 5 right because in that group (first 5 worth 1 point each) almost everyone got 1, 2, 3 and 5 correct. only very few got #4 correct, so i wanted to mention that.
I second this comment. Thanks Smoothie for this little game. By the way my final score should have been 6 not 4 I should have gotten 2 more points for correctly picking Augutin at no.9 going to CHA.
Ahhh, I get it. Might I suggest something for next year? I played a mock draft game on another board and the way it worked was this... Correct pick = 5 points Missed by 1 spot = 4 points Missed by 2 spots = 3 points Missed by 3 spots = 2 points Missed by 4 or more spots = 0 What's funny is that I submitted my mock for that game earlier in the week and it scored 59 points. The winner had 69. But had I submitted my updated mock from this thread for the game on the other board, I would have scored exactly 70, winning by 1! D'oh! I think that scoring system works better because it's so hard to get picks exactly right, especially outside the lottery. But you can usually put a guy in a general area on the board. You'd still get more points for exact picks, but missing by a spot or two wouldn't kill your chances. For the Rockets pick, it could be like...8/6/4/2 instead of 5/4/3/2.
Pete won because he cheated! Thanks Smoothie for putting this thread up,and Congratulations to Pete and his smarts.
that's not bad, but you know my gripe with that kind of system... lets say robin lopez is supposed to go either 15 or 17, but the team picking 16 doesn't need a big at all. you would just play it safe and put him 16 in your mock and stand a better chance of getting a " missed by 1" rather than a possible "missed by 2". so it's not really guessing where people will go.
