Mobley does need to shoot but he also needs to pass so he can get the ball back from Ming to get open looks. He can also give the other players a better chance to score by moving the ball around.
I wanted to add that Mobley must drive more quickly to the basket and get to the line to make his free throws when his shots are not going down. It will make things easier for him and everyone else.
It seems people will nitpick about Cat because they realize he really should be perfect...He is that damn good!!!
Is this your way of refuting any criticism of a Rocket as being without merit? Are they above criticism? Is automatically whitewashing every player and rejecting every criticism somehow superior to the predictibility you see in the " Wheel of Bashing"?
Cat's OK...chill. He passes to whomever he wants so maybe some whomevers will appear in his sights, like Rice, like Yao, like Ike?
What if this season progresses for Cat like it has the last couple of years? In both of the last couple of years Cat really turned it on about Jan or Feb and had really strong finishes. This year he is already hitting over 45 percent of his shots which if it holds up will be the 5th straight year Cat has improved in that area. But if he does like the last couple of years then by the end of the year he could have his percentage up around 48 or 49 percent. I feel so lucky that we don’t have a player like Jerry Suckhouse that is on course to have yet another year shooting below 40 percent. Go CAT!
As die hard fans, you can NOT say negative things about your team if they are winning! What's the matter with you!
Well, maybe if he came up with some new criticism of Mobley that hasn't been repeatedly beaten to death over the past two seasons. Gawd, people have been whining that Mobley doesn't pass for the past two years. Well, no sh*t that Mobley doesn't pass very much. Mobley does what he thinks helps the team the most, which is use his athletic ability to take it to the rack and shoot jumpers. Besides Cato, who only takes five shot attempts per game, there are TWO players on this team shooting at least 45% from the field. If you want him to pass to a 23% shooting Eddie Griffing or Moochie shooting a lights out 17.5% so they can take the majority of the shots, then so be it. Right now, though, he's the second scoring option on this team. SOMEBODY has to shoot the ball...why not Mobley?
Cat played more than 40 minutes per game, took more than 20 per game, but just had around 2 assists. If you play Ming that much and let Ming take 20 shots, I bet he will have more POINTS, BOARDS, ASSISTS, ...etc. Ming is just a better team player and will have better shot decisions. em, forget Cat, go and carry Ming's bag.
Passing is a skill that needs to be developed. It's not a decision. That's why Francis looks clueless when he tries to pass on the fast breaks. He just doesn't practice the rudiments of passing. Not in HS, not in College. He's just never developed those skills (seeing the court and giving your teammate the ball in just the right spot/time). Mobley is the same way, but worse. I'm sorry. But they can't pass, if they don't know HOW. They are just learning this year. I'll never buy that, "He's a SG, he's supposed to shoot." That's a specialist. Not a basketball player. But you're right about Mobley "using his athletic ability." Now what about using his brain once in a while!?
My solution for the past year or two: Trade Cat for a decent point gaurd and make Stevie the 2 gaurd. As long as Steve plays some D, he would be a good 2 spot. I'm worried about Yao. Obviously he has more upside than Cat, but as long as Cat is here Yao will never get the ball.
RudyT Has to know , more than ANYONE, how to get the ball to the big man,,....be patient, Yoas time will come..soon !!
I've been watching since 76 so I remember... I personally long for the dump it in the post days of old... that said... My problem with Cat, who is one of my favorites, is his shots don't come within the flow of the offense. I watched the first half of last nights game from the upper prom ($10. seats) and the second half from Row G behind the rockets bench. At one point I saw Rudy call Time out, draw up a play on the board which involved passing the ball into the post some back cuts and ball movement etc... the ball was passed in bounds to Moochie, who passed it to Cuttino, who cranked up a three point attempt with a guy in his face. When he missed... Rudy turned around and you could see the disgust on his face. If the team would learn to move the ball, and Cat would learn to use his numerous skills to draw the defender and create opportunites for his team mates early then later in the game they would have to honor those teammates which would make it much harder to defend cat in the 4th quarter.
