If that's so, then explain how Cuttino has both a higher field goal percentage and free throw percentage. And also, in one on one situations, I personally think Cat has made a lot of strides and has become a pretty damn good defender, and IMO is better than Dickerson on that end as well. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." I think that we can attribute that to MD starting a lot more games than Cat. After that you can see that their RPGs, Assists, SPGs, TO's and the amount of Personal Fouls are almost identical. After that MD has a little better 3pt% and Cat has a little better FT%. MD is .011% better than Cat at FG% but, the only year he was significantly better than Cat was the year they were both with Houston. Take that away and they are virtually even. MD is avging about 4.4 minutes a game more than Cat. But now that Cat is starting that gap will close. As you can see Cat and MD are virtually identical in stats. However, that first step that Cat has and the aggressiveness are things that can not be taught. The one thin that MD does that I wish Cat would do more is shoot the ball off the pass in one motion. Mad Max once said that the best thing Larry Brown did for him in San Antonio was to teach him to drive hard of the pic, catch the ball and shoot in one motion. MD does it well Cat needs to learn it. But it is something that Cat can learn. Finally. At the end of the game MD does not seem to demand the ball when the game is on the line. Cat loves the last second pressure shot. I love that in a player. I give Cat a slight edge over MD. ------------------
Dickerson probably has more pure talent and is bigger, but Mobley has all the intangibles. Yeah, he can be out of control but he is young. Dickerson will always be a solid guard (think Jim Jackson) but Mobley has a shot to be spectacular. One is a really good player. The other is a game breaker. One is always in the top 10 in guards. The other has the potential to be a perennial all star. I'll go with Mobley. ------------------ I am very very sleepy.
We have a leader. They have a follower. That's the difference. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
I think that they are both great. MD should be better than jackson. I think that if he and reef stay together that makes a good one-two punch, with Bibby playing the assist-man. I think that they will both be about the same in the end. I think Dickerson might be a little bit more talented, but Cat has more drive. I guess only time will tell. ------------------ President of the Charles Barkley fan club...Oh he retired? When?
imo, cuttino mobley has the ability to be the absolute perfect shooting guard. he can hit the 3, he has a point guards ball handling and passing "ability", he has a lightening quick first step, he WANTS the ball at crucial moments, and he has great big BASKETballs. dickerson can shoot well. there's absolutely no comparison in my mind. if cat can learn 2 things, he'll be an allstar sg: 1) a post up fadeaway jumper & 2) better catch & shoot in 2 years, he'll be able to, and all the dicky fans will see the light.
The major knock on Michael Dickerson has been that he doesnt bring it night in and night out on a consistent basis. He lacks the killer instinct or what some people like to label as IT. My major question marks with Cat were whether or not he could play effectively off the ball (meaning w/o him creating out of 2 Shakes), if he could become a more consistent mid range shooter and if his defense could be effective against legit NBA 2 guards. He has slowly been addressing all these concerns esp. since his move into the starting rotation. Even though Mobley is a tad undersized at 6-4, his long arms make up for that lack of height. I have been pleasantly suprised with the successful transition to the starting lineup. In the past, I was always against Mobley starting but am now completely ok with giving it a long term try now due to the successful results thus far. If Steve and Cuttino can continue playing well in tandem, this ballclub will "carve up" a lot of teams as John Thompson and Kevin Harlan labelled it last wk. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
And just think ... we could have had all three ... ~sigh~ Turcan ------------------ its all good and fun till someone gets hurt ... then its absolutely hilarious!
Dickerson is more passive....and plays within the ebb and flow of the Grizz system. He is indeed a follower. Mobley is much more aggressive, more of a risk-taker, and overall a leader, albeit somewhat unproven. I have to choose the latter almost always. Dickerson is stronger, and is very athletic...but Mobley has that killer instinct. As DaDakota said, maybe he will develop the brains to go with it! ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Well, I stand corrected. I thought that Dickie's was higher. I just wish that Cuttino would stop shooting jumpers, and just take it to the rack. He is so effective when he drives to the basket. Dickerson seems to take better shots than Mobley. Oh well... ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Why do you think he can take it to the rack? Because he can hit the jumpers! if he stopped taking the jumpers, why guard him out there? People would just play off of his "most explosive first step in the NBA". ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. Conspiracy theorists say this would explain why Hakeem has yet to be traded...
His transition, however, has resulted in a lower FG% since he got in the starting line-up which could be just a slump or could have something to do with starting. We'll have to wait and see. I totally agree with you on your assessment of the need for Mobley to start coming off of screens. Granted, he'll never be Reggie Miller, but coming off of screens for shots would really help the offense and open things up when he does want to go to the hole. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
No use trying to figure out ZRB's reasoning. He once commented that Mobley should have taken it to the rack against Utah and the Lakers like he did against the Knicks, because he's so much better at that than shooting jumpers. Ummmm. We were down by 3 points, ZRB.
It's hard to compare because Dickerson has to play for the Grizzlies. It is quite possible that being on a bad team depresses MD's output. On the other hand, it may be padding his numbers. But you certainly can't blame him for not having a killer instinct while he's playing for Van. I doubt Mobley would have much of one either if he was playing in such depressing conditions. I suspect Dickerson is the better player, though Mobley is probably using his talent more efficiently becuase of his environment. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary Gafford Art Artisan
