The Grizz took #14 and left us #41. Seventeen months later, how does that decision look? How do the two players stack up against each other? Have at it.

I read somewhere, forgot where but Rudy would of taken Bonzi Wells if he was available at 14.

I think Mobley is probably the better player.

Does the chemistry between Mobley and Francis outweigh Cat's occassional poor shot selection and end of game screw-ups?

If yes, Mobley. If not, Dickerson.

Dickerson is just to passive and tends to let the game come to him. I like someone with ice in their viens that loves the high pressure shot. I always liked Sam Cassell because of that and I think Cat is better than Dickerson because of that. Its obvious that both can score but Cat brings an extra demention that Dickerson does not have...IMHO.

Wow, Will, is that the first two-line topic- starting post you have ever made?

Really quite sad how lazy you are! I know you are just trying to bump up your post count but this is just plain silly. [IMG]

Are you just bored because you are not allowed to cover Bush's inauguration?

Oh, my answer is Mobes, because he is crazy. I like when he comes out of a timeout all smiles and talking to himself.

A recent rating of the 1998 draft class on sportstalk.com went something like this:

    1. V. Carter
    2. P. Pierce
    3. D. Nowitzki
    4. A. Jamison
    5. C. Mobley
    6. R. Lewis
    7. M. Bibby
    8. J. Williams
    9. L. Hughes
    10. M. Dickerson

(If I recall correctly, Bonzi Wells was number 11.)

I find it quite pathetic that Olowakandi was #1 and now he's not even a top 10 from his own class. I think it would be pushing it to count him as top 20. But anyway, there is no doubt that Cat was the steal of the draft.

I guess Lewis was quite a steal as well (or should I not go there?)

Mobley's probably better then Dickerson in terms of being an offensive threat, I think Dickerson has the edge defensively and he's a bit smarter on the break - overall I'd have to say that Mobley is the better player!

I'd take Mobes over Dickerson any day.

I'd take Mobley because he has that fire, something that is kind of rare. He's aggressive, explosive, and when the game is on the line isn't afraid to take the last shot. He's more likely to take it to another level then Dickerson is, and he is capable, and willing to take over a game on sheer will alone. You don't find that everyday.

I think skill wise they are comparable but I have to go with Cat because of the passion he has for the game.

Its a tough choice, but I would have to pick Dikerson. At this stage of his career, he is just a hell of a lot smarter than Mobley on the court. He also has a much more reliable shot. Lastly, he doesn't get abused on the defensive end. Still, it would be hard to give up that Mobley heart and fire. Still, I take swishes over bricks.

    Definitely Mobley.

Just checked stats and Mobley has more shots taken and made(about 60 more made than MD), higher fg%, higher ppg, and he fits the team perfectly. If he would just quit comparing himself to Francis everytime he gets interviewed, I'd even like him better.

Yeah but Dickerson has been troubled with injuries this year. He hasn't been able to get into a rythme yet. when it all flattens out Michael will have a higher shooting%. I also loved that kids outside shot! But I guess I'd have to go with Mobes cause I think he fits in with Francis alot better then MD.

That is a pretty accurate list for that draft when it was made (I believe at the beginning of this season?) However, I think it has changed some this season and should change some more in the future. This is how I see the 1998 draft stacking up when its all said and done:

    1. Vince Carter
    2. Dirk Nowitzki
    3. Antawn Jamison
    4. Paul Pierce
    5. Cuttino Mobley
    6. Bonzi Wells
    7. Mike Bibby
    8. Larry Hughes
    9. Rashard Lewis
    10. Jason Williams

Comments: The Wells-Mobley rankings were very very close as I feel both will be very difficult covers that can contribute well to a winning team. The reason I put Mobley one slot higher is b/c Wells needs to develop a more consistent perimeter shot before he can be regarded as a premier #1 or #2 type option in the offense. If he can do that tho, Wells is going to be one of the best SGs in the game. The Nowitzki-Jamison ranking was also a very tough one to call. Both will be very good players, but I feel Dirk will end up being better b/c of his wider array of skills and better height.

I'd take Dickerson. Both players are very good though. In situations where the talent is nearly equal, I always go with the less selfish player. But, it would be painful to watch Steve and Michael play hot potato with the ball in crunch time. Neither one would be willing to shoot it.
