I think it's a decent idea...Philly could use Mobley's scoring, whether it's off the bench or alongside Iverson. We could definitely use Snow's leadership and defense. I don't know if it works cap wise, but I would pull the trigger on that deal. Although, Larry Brown might have second thoughts because of Mobley's defense (or lack thereof).
oh my God!!! eric snow? he would have been if it were 3 years ago. the guy has broken down; he's done as a starting point guard in the nba. why would the rox want to trade a 5-year old toyota mr2 for a 10-year corolla? don't make sense.
it would be a good deal. finally the rockets could have a decent point guard that can get other players involved in the offense. cmon, lets be serious. i'd rather have eric snow running the point passing the ball and taking care of the ball, than to have steve FRANCIS (who should be a 2 instead) shoot the ball before passing. nor moochie norris aka MR. TURNOVER lose the ball on every possesion.
There is no reason to trade Mobley for a PG (there is no reason to trade him at all, but that is a different discussion). The offense for this team is going to run through one of two guys, Steve and Ming. It is rediculous to think that Steve would stop dominating the ball because he was playing alongside Eric Snow, Marco Jaric, or Andre Miller for that matter. That is like thinking that the Bulls in the Jordan years or the Hakeem led Rockets needed a traditional point guard. A PG on this team wouldn't do anything. If you are going to trade Mobley (a horrible idea, because of his salary you WILL NOT get a better player in return), get a shooter, not a distributor, because he will see precious little of the ball. For some reason every opposing team's announce crew recognizes that Cat is a good player, but the Rocket "fans" can't (or more likely won't) see it.
I agree with everything you said. We said our players don't "get it" but apparently some of fans don't "get it" as well. Everyone said that this is Steve Francis's team and proclaimed Mobley as our role player. When we win, everyone is anxious to praise our leader Francis (I've also given him props). But when we lose, it's the role player's (Mobley) fault? Come on your team is only as consistent as your best player you know, not your role player. When we lose, your best player needs to take the responsibility, not your role player! As I said in the game thread, the worst thing happened to us is when Francis hit everything at Utah and we won that game. That probably made him think that we could win any game with him playing that way. Just remember what happened after that Lakers game. Well I don't actually know what I want to say. I just want to say: Please STOP blaming Mobley. STOP hating Mobley. STOP the Mobley trade suggestion. PS. I am not a Steve hater. I love him. I am not suggesting trading our best player.
Carayip: Do you think he's a good backcourt partner for Steve? Or do you just object to the position that the Rockets need a true 1? More than anything else, I dislike having two identical players - neither of whom play good defense - in the backcourt together. Even if we don't trade for a 1, then we'd still need a taller shooting guard who bases his game on sticking the 3 and playing defense rather than having a game that slow closely mimics Steve's.
Some points: 1st, I think Mobley's a lot better defender than Francis. The one who doesn't put effort on defense is our supposed team leader Francis, not Mobley. 2nd, I think Mobley is adjusting his game to be the 3rd option now. He played within the offense a lot more than before. And contrary to popular belief, I don't think he needs to change his game much. He's a shooting guard. Of course he shoots 1st pass 2nd. I don't think the problem is Mobley so there's no reason to trade him for a PG or another SG. 3rd, getting a true PG and moving Francis to 2 is not the answer. If he wants to dominate the ball, he's going to dominate it at 1 or 2. Plus, he really can't play the 2 because he can't defend the 2. 4th, contrary to popular belief, I think Francis needs to change his game more than Mobley. If he doesn't make the change, getting a true 1 or a different 2 still can't make us a better team. Francis needs to get his teammates (especially his center) involved more and creates easier shots for his teammates a lot more thus make his teammates better (and make his team better) while at the same time still looks for his shots especially when needed. He needs to get the balance between passing and shooting right. Francis also needs to play a lot better defense (at least put more effort on it). If he does that, I don't see any problem in our backcourt. And I am willing to give him time. Well basically we have no choice but to give him time because as I said before if he doesn't make the change, I don't think getting a true 1 or a different 2 will matter much. 5th, I think the current Steve Francis looks a lot like the American Paulo Di Canio than Cuttino Mobley. You must assume that many people here don't know who Di Canio is. But unfortunately I know!
carayip: You're supposed to know! What fun is an inside joke if *nobody* gets it ? In response... 1. Mobley is a better defender than Francis. Agreed. Unfortunately, we need a larger guard to deal with the bigger 2's. Mobley and Francis are a dream for guards who like to post up. 2. Ah... yes, most 2's shoot first. Unfortunately, that's not what I'm referring to. I mean, rather, they play the same way. They're both well known for driving, before shooting... breaking down their man off the dribble. Even if you benched Francis... you'd still need the same kind of player to compliment Mobley. A big guard who plays D and sticks the 3. Plus, both have poor court vision. 3. Irrelevant. 4. Redundant. 5. Yes, but Steve would be more of a Patrick Kluivert, since he's a franchise caliber player .
Steve doesn't need to dominate the ball more than Allen Iverson. Mobley for Snow wouldn't work. We need a to make it a 3-way, who has a PG nd needs a SG?
i don't see why philly would do it we don't trade mobley because he's necessarily so much worse than francis... (some people wouldn't even want franchise now) we trade mobley because obviously our starting five doesn't work and mobley won't be happy with bench play and francis isn't really tradeable (plus market value) it doesn't matter if francis needs to change more or not... most people will agree he has to chance more than anyone on the team - partly because he is the PG... but he can change after we make some moves. this team has problems throughout
You've got to be smoking dope... Eric Snow...This is like trading for a Pinto for a Focus...errr... I mean a Malibu... Your probably right though, I don't think we'll get Jack for the CAT...
You must be as confused as Steve about Steve's role. Steve should be more of a playmaker and scorer combination like Di Canio or Rivaldo. Both are more franchise caliber than Kluivert who is a primary shooter type.
I plead ignorance with the references you guys are making. Are these NHL or Euro B-ball players? Anyway, my 2 cents: If we do trade Mobley, I agree that we don't necessarily need a true PG (unless we finish out of the playoffs and then I could see moving Steve to the 2). What I want for this team is a pure outside gunner like Finley is for the Mavs!! I know we can't get Finley, that's not what I was saying. I just want us to find someone who can drill the Trey on a better than 33% clip!!!!!!!!!
If we had a player like Redd with us as well I would probably trade Mobley for Snow. But we must look for equal talent when we make any trade even though Snow is a smarter player than Mobley.
Sane that trade looks even on paper but the Bucks lose out on toughness that Mason brings even though he is aging.Redd is taller and has better shooting range than Mobley. Mo-T is getting somewhat better but is still inconsistent. However if the Bucks agreed to the deal I would pull the trigger on it even though I would hate to see either one of them go.
Wish I had said that. Steve is very talented, but also has a pivotal role to playon this team. His growth is crucial to the Rocket's aspirations. I am more concerned with his (Francis') improvement , than what to do with Cuttino.
If your going to trade Mobley who has value get something out of it not Eric Snow. Possibley Jason Terry or Andre Miller, they would help the rockets a lot more than Eric Snow.
