The finesse, the moves, the streaks, the private mental world, the jacked-up BS. Now the unguardly boards. Give the man 3 inches and next he'll be selling BBQ.
Cat=Vinnie Johnson Cat=Chuck Person Cat=Vernon Maxwell Cat<>Drexler ------------------ Respect Hakeem's legacy. A championship in the hand is worth two in the bush!!
Will - nothing personal, but something tells me you are not old enough to have watched the Glyde prior to his becoming a Rocket. I think your comparison is mostly based upon drives to the hoop. Clyde had alot more assists, steals, and a better shooting %. ------------------ GATER
the "private mental world" that's pretty funny! Now, if Mobley starts doing his two shakes enyo-face dribbling with his head down....then I think you got something.
GATER, That is silly to say that. Will is definitely old enough. ------------------ Big A, little a bouncing B, The System might have got you, but it won't get me.
Will Saletan: the Doogie Howser over at Slate! LOL Trust us GATER, he's been watching hoops long enough! ------------------ The Badministrator
Actually 3Rings, it should be Cat < Drexler because there's no way cat is greater than drexler. ------------------
Mobley doesn't have to be the next Drexler. All he has to do is make the shots. They guy has the tools necessary to compete. It's Mobley, and I like what I see with him! ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
Clyde is the only player I have ever seen that dribbles the ball with his head down and he could still see the entire floor....now that was amazing. ------------------ ------------------ Hakeem: "Exit Suugar Lan"
Clyde had one of the ugliest shots I've seen, in my opinion. Whenever I saw that ugly ass shot, it made me laugh. He put the ball over his head and kicked his legs back, and it still amazes me how he made it. Sam Perkins has a pretty weird ass shot as well. ------------------
rimbaud - Excuse me for not knowing an anonymous persons age. It just didn't seem like a "mature" comparison. IMHO, "silly" is a comparison of 3rd year Cuttino with one of the 50 All-Time Greats. ------------------ GATER
GATER, Will is hardly anonymous. He is, after all, an administrator here. He is extremely well respected, is a very good journalist, and -- if you ever looked at the "Crew" section of CC.net you would see that he is nicknamed "C-Span" because he is on it so much. In other words, just a kid. After 600 posts you should know better and not be so condescending. ------------------ Big A, little a bouncing B, The System might have got you, but it won't get me.
Be Very Very Careful Will, With complements like that about Cat, Clutch will take away your admin status and banish you. Smeg ------------------ CUT Tino These Heaves are just getting Ridiculous!
Will, you and I have had probably zero conversations here in this BBS. I dont even recall either you replying to a thread of mine or me to one of yours. I typically consider you a great knowledge. But........ Man, come on. You dont really believe that. And Gater, no rimabaud had it right. Anyone who isnt a rookie here, knows Will's credentials. You were in the wrong. Just admit it, quit making excuses. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
Yeah,Clyde was athletic as all hell and didn't have a jumper at all, until Petrie took him under his wing. One big difference is that Clyde was a great defensive player from day one.Mobes has miles to go in this department and that three inches really helped Drexler.Glide would dribble with his head down and still be able to see that court, which gave him a big advantage...a fundamental nono that worked to his advantage.....huhuh.As far as the slashing, getting to the hoop, footwork, and finishing they are similiar. It would seem that Cat is much more fundamentally sound on the offensive side of the ball than Drexler. There is a wonderful unorthodox quality which both Dream and Clyde have had that seems to be a product of the PSJ days.Guy V let these guys play the style that suited them(not counting the second half of that damn game)and it showed later.I think the makeup of that team demanded it. Playing with Dream probably helped prepare Clyde even more for the half court game of the NBA,because yes they were running a country mile, but Akeem would put people in the torture chamber all the time as well.Cat has extraordinary talent, and coming up under Jarvis, then Rudy has helped him come a long way. While Clyde Glided,Cat does it with fundamentals like real quick footwork and ball handling.....anyway 2 different players...What is his ceiling?..While Drexler is one of the best 2's to ever play the game,he had the ability to play the 3.Cat,obviously is strictly a guard. He's just a different animal, that's all...just some thoughts... BTW..Clyde was quiet and preffered holding the company line off the court and Cat is loud on and off the court.Don't get me wrong,I love his exuberance and willingness to make himelf into a better player..he really loves the game and it shows. ------------------ [This message has been edited by hardwood (edited January 28, 2001).]
Cuttino is like drex as in that he is the second leading scorer on the rockets as clyde was to dream ------------------ President of the Charles Barkley fan club...Oh he retired? When?
Not as much as you definately for having made that comment. If you wanted to compare both, you can't just remember Drexler when he played for the Rockets, you have to take into consideration what he did with Portland, and as great a Cat is a player, he is no where near making as much contributions as Drexler at anypoint of his career. ------------------ Do not harm little children!
