Magette yes Cassell no unless he's a backup point guard. Cassell was in and out of the Clippers lineup so many times I didn't know what to think. He lost his starting position to Livingston until Livingston screwed his knee up. Then Cassell was in and out of the lineup must have been about 5-6 times with injuries to his calf, his ankles etc. The guys is a walking injury about to happen. I don't think Cassell is good for 30-40 min a game anymore. More like 10-20 minutes a game as a sixth man maybe.
Send them Howard/Sura for Maggette/Thomas and they save a boat load of money and only have to deal with two years remaining of Juwan. There, that's my fantastic trade of the summer.
Mo Williams is a 45% FG shooter and shoots 86% from the line. Alston is a 38% shooter and shoots 73% from the line. So yes Mo Williams shot less (35%) from the 3 line to to Rafers 36% (note, career MW is .348 to .358 for RA). The difference is in addition to being an adequate 3 point shooter MW, is effective from lots of other spots on the floor. Rafer's limitations isn't that he is an average 3 point shooter when wide open, it is that he is completely inefficient shooting anything else. Keep him anything other than a completely wide open 3 and he is a major drag on the offense. I would expect MW's shooting would improve getting the kind of open looks created by Yao and Tmac. Given RA shot 38% from the field and 33% from 3 the year before when Yao and Tmac were injured, I would expect Mo W would improve as well playing with those caliber of players he hasn't had at Milw. Now is it a slam dunk that MW would make the team a lot better than Rafer when you consider everything--defense, getting people involved, along with more scoring punch? Not totally confident--we don't know for sure how he will play on a good team, and that is why an MLE might be in the picture. Your are not going to pick up a Chancey Billips with an MLE even if it is available. MW is young and developing and looks as promising as any reasonable FA in a position of need.
If Billups takes less than the Max then maybe the Rockets have a shot at MW but as it is now I don't think he'll be within their price range.
Actually, Mo Williams is better than Monta Ellis statistically. He was better than even Barbosa on paper. I think he's a rapidly improving guard with a lot of upside. Possibly even All-Star Status someday.
We need to make sure our PG can pass into the post. Most Milwaukee fans complain that Mo can't get the ball to Bogut in the post, which is why he excels when there's no post option. If we're getting someone like that, I'd much rather get someone who goes to the line at an insane rate per minute. I don't know if Mo Williams is that guy. Personally, I would prefer getting Boykins.
this is a bit off topic...but how the hell do the bucks come across all these good point guards, and we can't stumble upon one to save our lives... just off the top of my head in recent memory... cassell ford williams hell they have/had james, blake, boykins and bell coming off the bench (all of which would improve our pg situation).
Mo Williams is never going to have a better opportunity to cash out in his entire career. If he doesn't go for the big Bucks (no pun intended) then he's insane.
I am not nearly as pessimistic as Emjohn. If Mo W wants to leave Milw, which is very possible, he may have bunch of MLE pursuers (us, Mia and maybe Denver I would expect to be the best ones) but not offers greater. Mo Williams is younger, but didn't have the season Mike James had 2 years ago (in total production or efficiency) and all MJ could get was the MLE. Swift the year before could only get MLE offers as well--and we landed him. And no, I don't think anyone thinks Mo Williams has the upside or skill of Barbosa. Barbosa is bigger, faster and can shoot better. Barbosa also was much more impressive when you factor in shooting efficiency, 48% overall and 42% from 3s, MW isn't close to that and probably never will be. 4-5 year MLE with player option and potentially a trade kicker might very well get it done. Tx and Fl of course have no income taxes too.
I think that was more due to the injury rather than declining. Sure age had a factor but we all saw that Lakers/Clippers game towards the end of the season where Cassell rushed back and was only around 80%, and still dominated that 4th quarter. He's clutch, not afraid to take the big shot, a great leader, and can create his own shot with a high percentage. He's definitely a starter. BTW, he makes every big man he plays with have their best season. Examples: Hakeem, Garnett, and Brand. I'd love him on this team despite his look.
If we have him strictly camp outside the 3-point line and wait for the kickout from Yao or T-Mac, then yes he's not what this team needs. But if we want someone who has a midrange jumper and can get to the hoop and finish(and make 86% of his free throws if he's fouled), then he'd be a great addition to the team. The dude shot nearly 45% from the field. And that was on a crappy team. Imagine the kinds of looks he'll get with T-Mac and Yao drawing all the attention.
He would be a steal with the MLE and Rafer would become one of the best back up point guards. Draft a 4 and we would be looking ok heading into next season. Also, please move Juwan's contract Morey!
If all you're going to do is camp at the three point line waiting for the kickout. I don't see why Novak didn't at least get 10 minutes a game or come in when there was clearly a need like the way Kerr came into a game for San Antonio.
