decades, huh? you are talking about a team that just finished its 10th season in its existence... from wiki I would say they are off to a pretty good start with another division title and an appearance in the NLCS
That would be awesome, and it would split my GFs family in two. Half of them grew up in Cleveland but live here in Houston, and the other half live in Denver.
I'd like to see this too. I get to see the Tribe back in the World Series and one of my closest friends lives right by Coors Field. It would a good reason to pay a visit to Denver and catch a game while I'm at it.
chip caray obviously was vouching for the yankees, fausto and the canadian soldiers is a classic playoff picture, anyone rmember when playoff series started when both teams finished off their competitors instead of when the t.v. schedule allowed them to begin
Of the three Astros that the Rockies got in the Jason Jennings trade, onbly Taylor Bucholz is on the playoff roster. Tavares and Hirsch are injured.
http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com/new...t_id=2258988&vkey=news_col&fext=.jsp&c_id=col Taveras feels good to go for NLCS Rox speedster shows no ill effects from injured quad Tuesday TUCSON, Ariz. -- The seven fly balls he chased down, and a bunt attempt that tested his speed, provided Rockies center fielder Willy Taveras all the evidence he needed Tuesday afternoon to pronounce himself ready to go for the National League Championship Series. Taveras played all nine innings of an instructional league game against the Diamondbacks on a hot Tuesday afternoon at the D-backs' Spring Training facility, contributing a run-scoring single to the Rockies' victory. "I feel good, really good," Taveras said afterward. "It's up to them to decide what they are going to do." The Rockies will work out at Chase Field in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for the best-of-seven NLCS opener Thursday night against the Diamondbacks. A side session is planned for Taveras, who has been bothered by a sore right quadriceps muscle that limited him to 25 at-bats after coming off the 15-day disabled list, and also cost him a spot on the Rockies' 25-man roster for the NL Division Series against the Phillies. Taveras hopes Wednesday's workout goes so well that the Rockies put him on their NLCS roster. The 25-year-old speedster missed the final 13 games in August, played the first seven games in September -- going 11-for-25 -- but re-injured his quad and reported to Tucson on Oct. 2 for treatment and rehab. There appeared no doubt whatsoever on Tuesday that he's fit to return to action. "He has improved a lot from where he was when he first got here to where he is now," Rockies farm director Marc Gustafson said of Taveras, who batted .320 and stole 33 bases during the regular season. "He accomplished what he needed to accomplish during this program. "It appears that he's ready, but he'll go up to Phoenix [on Wednesday] for a workout, and I'm sure their decision will be based on how he runs. He had some good activity in the gaps today, and it didn't look like he was favoring his leg at all." Taveras fouled out in the top of the first inning and raced into right-center to snare a line drove for the final out in the bottom of the first. He was twice hit by pitches, but the liberal rules being used allowed him to remain at the plate as a teammate went to first base. It was after the second HBP that Taveras hit a hot shot into left field, driving in a run. He later scored from second on a triple to right field, coasting around the bases with no hint of discomfort. "You look for things like, 'Is he dragging his leg at all?'" Gustafson said, "'and is he getting out of the box right away?'" The answers to both questions was "yes" and the smile on Taveras' face indicated it was a good day under a hot desert sun. "I ran a 3.65 down the line, and I don't think I could do any better than that," he said. "I felt good running, and it also felt good to play nine innings and get some action. I played seven innings the other day and didn't get a ball hit to me. I got a lot of balls today." The next fly ball that comes his way could be at Chase Field or Coors Field. "I just want to help the team as much as I can," he said. "The reason you work hard all spring and through the summer is to get into the playoffs, and I'd just like to be part of the club. They have been playing great without me, but I still feel part of the team and believe I can help." Another mending Rockies player, pitcher Aaron Cook, is scheduled to pitch seven innings on Wednesday during an instructional league game at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson. How he performs could help determine manager Clint Hurdle's pitching staff for the NLCS. Jim Street is a reporter for MLB.com. I like Wily, but that's not the point. He's not starting. Spilborghs played him out of a job. They won all those games with him in CF. I can't imagine they'd tinker with the roster after winning the way they have. Great to have as a pinch runner and a late-inning defensive replacement with a lead, though.
Taveras has a much higher batting average and a better on base percentage (besides all the stolen bases and runs scored). Taveras was injured. He wasn't outplayed... ^_^
LOL!!! Manny I just got this email in my in-box. Figured you could use it more than me. --------- Dear Mark, There's something about a Boston Red Sox playoff game at Fenway Park. Maybe it's potentially clinching a World Series birth under the shadow of the Green Monster, the Citgo sign in Kenmore Square, or the fact that if you squint hard enough you can almost make out Carlton Fisk waving that ball inside the foul pole. I got two extra tickets -- great seats -- to Game Six of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Indians next Saturday. And I believe they might have your name on them. Here's how it works. You make a minimum contribution of $20.04 (in honor of the last time the Red Sox won the World Series, 2004) and you have as good a shot as anyone else to bring along a guest of your choice to attend the game with me. And whatever happens, your contribution of any amount will go towards our campaign, restoring the Constitution and ending the war in Iraq. http://chrisdodd.com/redsox We'll also help fly you and your guest out to Boston (and back home) and put you up in a hotel the night of the game. If the Red Sox clinch before Game Six, well, then we'll be watching Game Two of the World Series together at Fenway. And if by some chance our beloved Sox don't make it that far, you and a friend will join me on the trail for a day in Iowa or New Hampshire. But they will make it that far, so make a contribution right now and join me at the game next week (or maybe the World Series!) http://chrisdodd.com/redsox We'll select the winner live and online at 5 P.M. Eastern, next Thursday. So, what do you say? Wanna go see a ball game? http://chrisdodd.com/redsox Batter up! Chris P.S. Taveras' OBP is .004 points higher! He's a leadoff hitter who still can't draw a walk to save his life. He also bats for no pop. Spilborgh's slugging percentage and OPS are 100 points higher than Wily's...he has over 5 times as many HR's and over twice as many RBI's in over 100 less at bats. But more importantly...you don't change your lineup when you're winning like this. I think Taveras lost his job.
UPDATE Wily Tavares has been added to the Rockies' playoff roster. He took Mark Redman's roster spot. Apparently he had a strong showing at yesterday's workout. Can't find a link, but it's on page C4 (sports section) of today's Chronicle.
the damn MLB playoffs schedule are sofa king dumb. you have teams play ever single day for up to 20 days without rest, yet give teams 2-3 days off in the playoffs! the hell with that. i want to see games with the scrub vs scrub pitchers, instead of having the aces out there 3 freaking times a series.
