Dusty Baker and Kerry Wood made me turn against the Cubs. Lou Pinella will keep me that way. I just don't like him.
Can there be any other 4 NL teams worse then the ones we see in the playoffs? My God, is Arizona really the best team in the NL? They sucked for it seems like decades and so has Colorado. This is a shame for teams like The Astros, Cardinals, Mets, and Braves to stink like they have this year. This is really an odd season in the NL. Another point, for all that money The Cubs spended this offseason to barely get in the playoffs after The Brewers pretty much handed it to them, and then not even show up? Wow!
I am more amazed than upset. The Rockies had to win 14 of their last 15 games just to make the playoffs now they have won 17 of their last 18 games.
I think the Rockies and Diamondbacks are great. They built up their teams on pitching, defense and through their minor league farm system. They are showing the Cubs, Mets and Astros that splurging on free agents is not the only way to a pennant.
Why the Cubs got swept... http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/confused_cubs_think_theyre Confused Cubs Think They're Going To Arizona To Start Spring Training PHOENIX—Chicago Cubs players reluctantly followed Coach Lou Pinella's orders to pack their equipment for a trip to Arizona Monday, causing many on the ball club to wonder why they were starting spring training nearly six months ahead of schedule. "Last offseason I at least got to spend a little time with my family," said Cubs second baseman Ryan Theriot while examining the unusual 2007 MLB Playoff patch on the right sleeve of his jersey. "We must have done something right this season, though, because I heard our first exhibition game is already sold out." Upon their arrival to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Theriot's theory regarding the team's improvement was immediately abandoned when he realized that the fans who had gathered to greet the Cubs were in fact booing them mercilessly.
It is exciting since I followed these guys in AA: Troy Tulowitzski Jeff Francis Ubaldo Jimenez Ryan Spilborghs Franklin Morales Chris Iannetta
Roy O Brandon Backe Lance Berkman Adam Everett Chris Burke Jason Lane (yup thats right) Willy T Brad Lidge Chad Qualls Craig Biggio All from the WS roster...all came up through the farm system. So I don't really get how the Astros "splurged" on FA when really they just paid for Pettite and Clemens services during the NLCS and WS years. In fact, the Astros had been so successful over the years because of their farm system.
Quad injury Jason Hirsh and Buccholz have also been injured during the entire "hot streak" run of the Rockies (now 17 of 18 games). IOW - it was a pretty good team even before the trade.
Sox have broken the game open in the top of the 8th. 9-0 Red Sox. Now if the Yankees lose tonight . . .
Let's go Cleveland! *clap* *clap* ...*clap* *clap* *clap* Let's Go Cleveland! *clap* *clap* ... *clap**clap**clap*
Hirsh has; Buchholz has pitched about 4 or 5 times during the stretch including the one-game playoff with San Diego.
Somebody want to figure what the Yankees ended up paying Roger for the innings he actually did pitch this year?
