Misinformation http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/story?id=1399782 Junior college star Qyntel Woods faced a similar onslaught of rumors the past few weeks, ranging from his past mar1juana use to off-the-court problems. On draft night, Woods slipped from a top 10 pick all the way to the Blazers at No. 21. His slide came despite passing a drug test. The rumors, in the end, were just too much to overlook for most teams. "The bad thing is, the rumors are being spread by people with an agenda," said Shredrick Howard, one of Woods' associates. "These people call teams and deliberately try to mislead them. It's tough to overcome a stigma once it's out there." Woods was candid with teams about his past recreational use of mar1juana and assured them that it wasn't a problem. He obviously wasn't very convincing. Just a day before the draft, a number of GMs said Woods -- who has been compared to Tracy McGrady -- was a top-10 talent but predicted he'd fall out of the lottery. Could this be a reason that even Houston past up on picking up Woods, not that I would want him anyways. Bad rumors sent this guy from a top ten pick to number 21, the same thing happened to Butler. Supossedly there was some sort of rumor that Butler had hurt his knee during training camp, and that is was pretty serious. Those were all rumors as well. I would hate it if the Rockets passed on the guy becasue of bad rumors. Jeez, the Heat came out with a huge STEAL. I wouldn't be suprised is the same thing happend to Eddie Griffin last year, maybe people tried to blow up some of the fights that he did to make him slide. Whoops I put an extra "s" in misinformation, my bad.
Qyentel probably had the worst story of the draft. First he falls out of the lottery and drops more than 10 picks than were expected and of all the teams that could draft him, Portland takes him where he'll have no playing time.
HotRocket: "Could this be a reason that even Houston past up on picking up Woods, not that I would want him anyways." I think he could have been a great fit after playing behind Rice and Mobley a year or two. However, Nachbar was apparently Rudy's #1 choice ever since seeing him play for Bennetton. Thinking he would have the #5 pick in the draft, Rudy went to see Skita and came away so impressed with Nachbar that the Rox were one of only four NBA teams to work him out. I doubt Woods was even a consideration once the Pacers chose and the Rockets knew they could have Nachbar. The point about rumors being spread by people with an agenda is an excellent one.
