Don't blame Ming is not selfish or agressive.Obviously Ming was told to not to shoot oftern by the Rox coaching staff. When Ming played for Chinese NT, he would shoot ball from 18 feet away, and would even shoot from 3 point ranger. I dont think this guy doesnt know when and how to shoot. Judging from his conversation with the Chinese reporter,(http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46648), he seems to understand that his main job on this team is not to score. This is the guy who score on average 35 points in China's CBA, and how on the earth he would say something like that. The only explaination is that Yao Ming is brain washed by Rox coaching staff. I recall Rudy.T said before that he wouldnt be the main scoring option of this team, and his job is to rebound and get 2nd opptunity if someone else misses. This is in line with Yao Ming's explaination of the Center role of current Rocket team. It seems everybody else in NBA knows that Rox needs to utilize the big fella more. Steve Sanp Jones said on TV that Rocket dont realize that what they have with the big fellow. I hope this Rox team can adjust to Ming before the season is over for them!
Clearly Rudy T. is telling Yao not to shoot from the perimeter. I think that's obvious and we all agree. You can call it brain-washing... others would call it coaching. And we all probably disagree whether this is good or bad coaching, but certainly we should all be in favor of Yao listening to the coach. I think you're being melodramatic about the cost of all of this to the Rockets, though. The season is loooooonng. 82 games. Even if the first half, for Yao, consists of just defense/rebounding, there's more than enough time for the Rockets to adjust in the future.
I agree Ming should listen to coach, and he is just doing that right now. I also can see that he is trying to rationalize what he is told to do. Why am I so disappointed? Because the short handed Sac team didnt even have their two other big stars yesterday, Rox was beaten so badly. The current Ming strategy dont work. I dont know when it is too late for Rox to realize that. Would it be better if they realize it now?
That short-handed Sac-town team has beaten some good teams you know. Don't be too down-hearted. The main reason that the coaching staff are telling Yao not to shoot the outside J is because he needs to be where he can really hurt teams... inside. For all the negativity around here, we're still over .500, and a good run of results in , say, Jan-Feb would see us nicely into playoff contention.
Yep, I'm now convinced that this nimrod is either a former or current poster hiding behind a new nickname...
Oy, basher... I'm sure Rudy's goal is not to win games, but rather to make Steve happy. Makes a lot of sense. Can we PLEASE make a permanent thread with the title: "Angry Ming-fans Disembowel Rudy T" (AM DIRT)? I think it would save a lot of space for threads that dare to not whine about Ming not being the mayor of Houston, etc., yet.
I think the issue is whether Ming is getting enough touches as a starter. I just find it amazing that he hasn't had 9-10 shots since (at least) the Wizards game; its as if he's not being given the ball as punishment for starting. 3 shots on goal is a problem, especially given his offensive talents. The Rocks have to give him the ball enough to take several shots, or alternatively, pass the ball to an open shooter.
But he can't really hurt teams inside either, when nobody will feed him the ball down there. It doesn't matter that he's established good post position, is running on the break, or rolling after a pick -- he's ignored way too often. I just don't understand the unwillingness to feed him the ball. He has shown time and time again that he's willing to reciprocate, give the ball up, and make the pass to someone else if necessary -- unlike most of his teammates. You get the ball to Ming, there's a good chance you'll get it back. But not so with everyone else. So I'm tempted to say, if he gets the ball outside and has an open shot -- and at his height, more often than not the shot is uncontested -- he should take that shot. It can't be a worse shot than the crap our guards unconscionably jack up. But you can see how this selfish style of basketball spreads systemically. It's a disease that has to be treated soon, before the whole team is infected. I'm glad Yao has the resistance to fight it off.
Hamachi....You are right. I was watching last night and there were a couple of times that Ming had great position and Did not get the ball because KT felt the need to Shoot a 20 footer, ( He thinks he is a SG) I am waiting for the Day when Ming just gets fed up and Starts taking his shots because when he does, He is going to be hard to stop and he will get to the Free throw line more often, I know he is not doing well at the Line but he will get better. I may be wrong but This team is no longer Steve's , Its Mings and I think Steve Is afraid of that.
I don't think it's a brain-washed, rather i think the coach is taking easy on Yao. I say let the man play the game! It's time for him to step up and be the leader of this team. Time for him to have a voice in the game. Time for him to be aggressive and demanding the ball. Of course, this is only possible if the coaches and players allow him to do so. And in my opinion, the coaches aren't telling him that!!
Rox has a fine plan to reach the play-off this season. Ming -fan should remember that turkey only has two legs and two wings. Steve and Mobley surely pick lion-share. KT, and Cato might take wings. Well, rest of the team share the remains. No matter how good Ming is, he should not walk out of the bound as a rookie.
My guess is that Rudy just did not want to get Yao too involved in case he might be injured. Very considerate of Rudy. Two thumbs up! Also, he anticipated the loss to the Kings; so why bothered to risk our talented Yao? Instead, it had been a good opportunity to get our gards (incl. SF) trained.
Preventing Yao from getting injured by letting him focus on defence? Many times he had to defend other teams' guards who penetrated to the lane and picked fouls (Don't tell me our guards are good at defence). Well, Yao still had to fight for the inside positions all the times, though meaninglessly since ppl seldom passed to him. And Yao had to run from one side to another side of the court meaninglessly all the times. No wonder he felt tired. And, that's certain not a protection by any means. So many games passed, seriously what did our guards leran?
That "short-handed" Kings team is 14-5, so it's not like we got whipped by a M.A.S.H. unit or something. Brainwashing? Rudy is doing the right thing, bringing a young player along slowly. There are times that Ming looks lost or makes rookie mistakes like forcing passes and keeping the ball to low for guards to steal so force feeding him helps nobody. This theory of brainwashing is ridiculous, the hardcore Yao Ming fans are going to have to accept the fact that Yao is still learning the NBA game. You don't exclusively run plays through a guy who didn't have training camp and is a rookie. This team is 9-7 and easily could be 10-6 or 11-5 so Rudy must be doing something right. Just let this team grow. I mean come on, brainwashing and this ridiculous theory of Steve Francis is jealous? Yeah, Steve is so jealous that he has run play for Yao, that b*stard! Yeah, this team sure looks like they're jealous of each other, we could have chemistry issues like Kobe and the Lakers, or we can win and ease a rookie into the system.
I see just as many, if not more, of these "rookie" mistakes from the rest of the team than I do from Ming. I say let him do as much as he can handle. This holding him back for the sake of holding him is plain stupid! While he should not become a perimiter focused player, it is stupid for him not to take a few (like 4 or so) outside shots per game. The rest of the guys don't seem to mind jacking away!!!!
