The world is a dangerous place, war is a constant condition for humankind; especially in the crossroads of the continents. One interesting aspect to watch though is the way that a common enemy make allies of otherwise opposing interests. Sure, the are temporary alliances but there are so many opposing interest in the Middle East. And now, they all fear/hate ISIS.
...and while Obama is still deciding if it would be a good idea to send a few air strikes against his buddies in The Muslim Brotherhood & ISIS, both Christian & Muslin men are being executed & their women are being raped. Looks like the Russians will step into the conflict before the USA. Well done Obama, well done.
Senior level government officials in Israel and Turkey willing to accept (recognize) an independent Kurdish state. May be good for both as it creates an non radical state in the region to combat and buffer the likes of Syria and ISIL. However this would make US look even more like imperialist. Going to be hard for Obama to deny an independent Kurdish state. Cheney desperately wants the region to be made in his vision. Impossible. It would be at the expense of more American deaths and perhaps more casualties on all sides.
Sometimes I get the feeling in an alternate universe, Cheney would be tried and jailed for his part of the hangover '00 decade. Instead he will probably die in relative peace. This is a pretty big shift by Turkey. I was doubtful they'd let an independent Kurdistan exist, but I guess as things are now, it already exists if not in name, and the stable oil it brings is a lot better than the hellish civil wars brewing further south.
You have very simplistic view of the stakes and politics involved and grossly over estimate the impact of American action in stopping Middle east atrocities. You can't bomb militants entrenched within the civilian population. And you couldn't send the 100,000 man armored force it would take to effect the ground war in time (or pay for it and the aftermath if you wanted to). Other than possibly a few very specific surgical strikes this will a proxy/civil war that will probably last several decades. From your screen name, I always assumed you were an Israeli supporter. Muslim on Muslim warfare means they aren't attacking Israel.
If you're interested in intelligent debate, it would be best to not start your posts with ridiculous claims like this.
He already posted that we should use nuclear weapons tto intervene - so you decide how interested he is.
I have this person (will keep my opinion of said person to myself) on ignore. Like most members who post regularly in D&D who are on my ignore list, I don't have a problem with his posts in other forums, but I do here. Your quote (and others) means I have to read him. Thanks a LOT! ;-)-
Ha sorry Deck. I agree that I like his posts in the GARM. The D&D brings out the crazy in some of our fellow Rox fans
I consider myself Australian, as I was born here, but my mother is an Assyrian from Iraq...& we still have family over there. So if some of my post seem a bit on the heavy side it's because Of that fact.
Sorry if my comments sound ridiculous to you, but the perception from around the world, especially in Egypt & the Middle East, is that Obama is a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood over all others in the area. That might not be how y'all see it in America, but that is how the world sees your President.
No, we have idiots here too. The support for order in Egypt was set in policy stone like 40 years ago, probably after the Yom Kippur War when American arms soundly defeated Russian arms and the Egyptian military wanted to get some. We were wresting Egypt away from the Russian sphere of influence as a battle in the Cold War. And it's always a tough line to tread between order and chaos, democracy and tyranny, especially given the religious mistrust and the continuing irritant of Israel.
I don't think quoting from Khomenei is in any way representative of the world's view on American intervention. His own military holds views in opposed to Khomenei, so how can what he says represent a whole region when he can't represent his own government ...
Juan Cole a real Middle East expert who has consistently been correct when the neo-con and the liberal interventionists have been wrong on why it is a myth that we can find moderates in Syria and give them weapons and training to fight against the Syrian government and not have both the weapons and training be used against the US if we insist on figh.ting over there. Much like our results in training and arming the Jihadis against the Russians and the Sunnis in Iraq to fight Al Qaeda. ****** Top 5 Reasons US Aid to “Moderate” Syrian Fighters is Quixotic http://www.juancole.com/2014/06/moderate-fighters-quixotic.html
If you read the international media reports, many of them are saying similar things...that they blame Obama & America for the situation as it is now in the Middle East. Just pointing out what the international perception of the Obama administration is, & what his policies have done to America's standing on the international stage.
Well it is true that this America's fault. Most Americans don't see this, though about 80% see the war as "not worth it" from the point of view of advancing only American interests. It is interesting that so many Evangelical Christians in the US were so motivated to follow Bush and Cheney into this war which as you have pointed out has been so detrimental to all the people of Iraq and especially Christians.
