Found this awesome video on Google from a Miles Davis concert in 1987, Munich, Germany. 2 songs, not sure of the first one, but the second one is Miles Davis doing his awesome version of Cindi Lauper's "Time after Time." Each song is around 10 minutes long. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2747461428857667436&q=miles+davis&hl=en What are some of your favorite Miles Davis Albums? Songs? Stories?
I was listening to Sirius the other night and one of the DJ's was talking about Miles. Its amazing how he put out a groundbreaking album every decade that revolutionized Jazz and music as we know it: 50's Birth of the Cool 60's Kind of Blue 70's b****es Brew I never get tired of Kind of Blue. Ive listened to it hundereds of times and it never gets old. I just find it to be the perfect album, and my favorite among rock, rap, disco, funk and everything else. Nobody touches Miles. I thank my uncle for getting me hooked on Jazz back in College.
Kind of Blue is one of the greatest recordings of any genre of music. As you said, it is timeless. My favorite Miles Davis album. Miles and John Coltrane performing "So What" from Kind of Blue, Live in 1959 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg5cUIU7oHs
I really enjoy "Sketches of Spain" - Gil Evans produced. I listen to this when I need a lift. "Porgy and Bess"-makes me feel bittersweet-growth. I also enjoyed his rendition of "Time after Time". Miles left behind so much.
He probably had the best run of any musician, ever. Maybe Duke Ellington had a longer go, but nothing tops Miles' 1948-to-1968 output for me. No bum songs, and the best bands in the land. Even the unheralded stuff that nobody talks about (bands with Horace Silver in the early 50s, Victor Feldman in the early 60s) were brilliant. You literally can't go wrong with any album from this era.
I have so many Miles Davis' albums that it isn't even funny. I love the first Quintet recordings (especially the ones for Prestige in "Cookin'", "Steamin'", "Workin'", and "Relaxin'") as well as "Kind of Blue" and "Milestones". But I also love his first fusion era (1968-75), especially "In a Silent Way", "b****es' Brew", "A Tribute to Jack Johnson", "Live-Evil", and "Get Up With It". Favorite song has to be "Right Off" from "A Tribute to Jack Johnson".
