Vick was great in week two - average in week one - poor in week 3. He just needs more freedom to run wild and he will put up big numbers. Right now he is a top ten Qb, but not a top 5...

mad max and pgabriel are polarized like a d&d thread. yes he's overhyped and statements like "the michael jordan of football" are asinine. however, he is a great, great football player feeling his way back to his A game. i heard steve young, who knows just a bit more about being a great quarterback than any of us, saying that he thought atlanta could do some damage this year and get into the playoffs because vick was such a great player.

When I say he's the Michael Jordan of football, I mean he's currently the most exciting player in any sport on the planet to watch. More exciting than Kobe, T-Mac, Randy Moss, etc.

As far as his stats are concerned, his stats weren't that great in college either passing wise. But he still led Virginia Tech to National Championship game, and singlehandedly shredded a pretty fast Florida State defense on the ground. Winning is all that matters. And Vick isn't just fun to watch, his teams win. Period.

Also he is learning a new offense and didn't play in the preason so his numbers are down. Who cares. SCOREBOARD

I'm referring to another ridiculous thread where certain posters said they would take Carr over Vick including the thread starter.

I think I need to weigh in this topic, since I cover the man and his team! Michael Vick is the most exciting player in football and is probably the greatest combination of athletic skills ever in a pro quarterback. But is he a great quarterback? I'd have to say at this point in his career- maybe. Just look what happened to the Falcons last season when he missed most of the year. They were godawful. Now his completion percentage is not as good as it could be and he has never done exactly what people have expected (300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing), but does he win football games? Yes. Does he plant butts in the seats? Yes. Is he fun to watch? Yes.
He'll get better, but do I think he is the best QB in the game? No, far from it. Peyton is far better. But Vick has more potential to change the game of football than anything, with the emphasis on P-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L.

They beat a playoff team from last season (St Louis). Now call me when you make a valid point.

well, i think he is a unique player. i don't think you can compare him to manning except that they play the same position. maybe he's not a great quarterback but he is a great player. a difference-maker on or approaching the level of any offensive player in the league.

how about my donovan mcnabb glasses? i'd say he's far the superior QB to Vick.

but thanks for proving my point by comparing him to MJ

he has great potential. at this point, the discussion stops there, i think. comparing him to the great QB's in this league is laughable to me.

I definitely think that Vick is having a poor season so far. But i think the Falcons are being absolute fools for running the West Coast Offense. A structured, short yardage passing games is so poorly tailored to Vick's strength it isn't even funny. Vick has a cannon arm and the ability to break out of the pocket for big gains if the play falls apart.

The Falcons should be running a rushing-centered offense combined with a vertical passing game. Lots of rushes in order to set up the play fake for a long pass. And if things go bad, Vick can just take off. Incidentally this was the offense that the Falcons used to go to the Superbowl (minus the scrambling QB component) a few years back.

    Is he overhyped? Yes

Do I think he's the most talented player in the NFL? Yes

Should I start him or Tom Brady this week on my fantasy team? Undecided

So your point is that St Louis was good last year? That doesn't mean anything for this year. You could easily make an argument that they aren't even in the top half of the league this year.

Lil's right Atlanta hasn't played anybody good yet and the NFC south is a weak nut division.

and by the way...on the hater label.

i like vick. not my favorite player in the league...but i've rooted for him. loved him in college...among my favorite college players ever, with charlie ward, major applewhite and j.j. joe.

i just think the hype we're seeing for the guy is silly. that's all.

I explained what I meant with the Michael Jordan comparison, most agree they he is probably the most exciting athlete in his sport.

As far as Donovan McNabb, has Michael Vick really been more hyped than him. Everytime I look up, I see Donovan pushing some soup on a commercial. I don't know how many times I heard about McNabb and Owens finally getting Philly over they hump, and other commercials with McNabb. So I don't see your point. Peyton Manning, my God could they have hyped up the Peyton and Farve game last year anymore. And I'm pretty sure no QB receives any more hype than Peyton. So I don't know who you are referring to when you say he receives to much hype in relation to others.

#1) the NFL is full of parity. If you are 3-0, you are 3-0. Any given day Arizona, St L (one of the pre-season NFC favorites) or SF could beat any other team.

#2) It is no sure thing if you put McNabb or Peyton or Brady on Atlanta they would be 3-0. Without Vick, Atl is probably the worst team in the league.

#3) he is NOT a "great" passing QB, but he is a great player. He probably is the most dangeorus runner in the league--tailbacks included. Having him is not that far off from having Barry Sanders be your RB, plus having a great arm and decent throwing QB even if sometimes inaccurate and learning to read defeses. To value him you must weigh his running threat--you know opponents do. It may not show up in QB rating and traditional QB measures--but it does show up in the win column.

#4) the MJ of football, no, but if all players in the league were being re-drafted tomarrow I am not sure he wouldn't be the 1st pick, that tells you the respect for him as a player and unlimited prospect.

Yeah, and McNabb sucked ass his first 3 games last year too. As did Peyton.

Using three games to define a qb is pretty shoddy, even if he is "overrated" one.

i'll use all 4 years if you'd like. he was brilliant in the playoff game at Lambeau, no doubt. his QB rating have never gone over 81. his completion rate is at the highest level it's ever been at, 60%.

i think he's too quick to run. and i've said time and time again that he's going to be hurt quite frequently in the NFL. it's a vastly different game than the college game.

potential...absolutely!!! i just don't believe this guy is right now what he's made to be. that's it.

Exactly. And I find it pretty funny that someone in this thread used to defend Donovan with this same argument last season when he didn't start out so great and now they don't see the same thing with Vick.
