Ok...I'm gonna say it. OVER-RATED...CLAP CLAP...CLAP CLAP CLAP I heard Lance talking about this a bit this morning on SportsRadio...here's his season so far: The most yards he’s thrown for this season??? 179. That’s his season high. 179. His QB rating is under 81.1, after 3 games against the Cardinals, 49ers and Rams. He’s thrown 2 TD’s in 3 games…he’s thrown as many interceptions. Again…against teams that aren’t exactly stellar. He’s also fumbled like crazy…2 times this last week, in addition to throwing an interception. He’s been sacked 10 times in 3 games. The backdrop here that has me label him as overrated is the buzz...the pre-annointing. SI talking about him in Canton. Nike ads all over. Talk about him already being among the very best, if not the best, QB in the league. Is he fun to watch? Absolutely. Does he have great potential? Sure. But this guy doesn’t deserve anywhere near the run he gets. A great college QB…great! Pro?? Eh. We'll see.
In his defense, he has been placed in a new system this year (again);. Now he must learn to play within the confines of the "west coast offense" (anyone else think this term is overused?). Many experts predicted he would struggle at first.
and yet his completion rate...at 60%..is his career best. of course, this is only his 3rd season. he's been hampered by injury as well. all of those are fine excuses. but they don't change the fact that he's overhyped at this point.
is he a tremendous player at this point? when you're a QB...and you're best game this season after 3 games is 179 yards passing? i'd say donovan mcnabb has been tremendous. i'd say peyton manning has been tremendous. i don't think i'd say that mike vick has been tremendous to this point. exciting? yeah, in flashes he's exciting. but not tremendous.
Considering Vick is in a new offense and he had like only 25 snaps or so in the preseason, I'm surprised Atlanta is doing as well as it has(esp since pretty much the same d from last year is playing MUCH better now). Vick may be struggling out of the gate, but he is still one of the best weapons in the nfl. Whether he lives up to his potential or just has a Cunningham type career(or even less) remains to be seen.
Ummm...Atlanta has beaten San Francisco, St. Louis, and Arizona. They barely beat Arizona and San Francisco, two teams that could easily be considered the worst in the league and St. Louis is a team many say is on the demise. The Lions were 2-0 too until they played somebody worth mentioning.
They have beaten EVERYONE they have played, you can't do more than that. I didn't hear you complaining Max when we were beating up on Milwaukee and Pittsburgh to get back into the Wild Card race. DD
he's the most talented guy on the field, but the QB position is also the hardest to succeed at by far. He's been overhyped simply because most people expect him to throw for 300 yards and rush for another 100 every game.
MadMax you're a hater... Michael Vick is really really good at playing football. Without him, the Falcons can't do anything, with him, they're a threat to go deep in the playoffs. he's not peyton manning, but he's just as hard to defend.
meh, Where did I say that? All I said was that they are 3-0, who cares what stats he has, his job is to help his team win. And, at 3-0, he is doing a great job of it. DD
Right now, it looks like the Falcons are winning despite Vick's mediocre showing, not because of him. Heck, Kyle Boller was the playoff-bound Ravens QB last year. No one in his right mind would say Boller "led" the team to the playoffs. Same with Vick. If he's not the main reason for his team being 3-0, he shouldn't get much credit.
Michael Vick and freakin Atlanta went into Greenbay two seasons ago and did something no other team had ever done. His team is undefeated. His team's win loss percentage with him trumps what it is without him. He's the Michael Jordan of football and if you can't see that you need to take off your David Carr glasses. David Carr has better offensive talent around him and the Texans needed a 102 yard interception return to win their first game this season. This argument is silly and give Vick's team's record is quite ridiculous to bring it up right now.
Yes you're right, we all saw how good the Falcons were without Vick. They won a lot despite him being on the field last season.
I'm pretty sure it's statements like this that provide grist for the "overhyped" mill. He has the potential to be one of the all-time greats, but slow down with the cannonization. He's had 2 poor games & one very good one, can we let them play a few more games before we have this conversation? And what in the world does David Carr have to do with this?
