I was listening to Huckabee and the president he most reminds me of is Jimmy Carter. A southern governor who is an outsider to Beltway politics, running an insurgent campaign, concerned about social values, humble self-effacing demeanor and moderate on economic issues (at least by todays standards). Carter at the time of his election wasn't considered an economic or social liberal and was somewhat distrusted by the Democractic elite while we see the same thing with Huckabee who has been sharply criticized by economic conservatives in the Republican party.

Just curious what the rest of you think about that comparison. Also this isn't meant as a slam on Huckabee as I don't believe Carter was the worst president ever and think as a statesman and person he is very admirable.

dont know much about Carter, I do know that the NY Post, which is a conservative newspaper, never has anything good to say about Huckabee. He is viewed as a social conservative but an economic liberal.

He has my vote on Super Tuesday and hopefully November BTW.

George W. Bush as President = Jimmy Carter as President

Carter did great things after he was President. George W. will pick his nose and scratch himself after being President.

If Huckabee wins the nomination, it will only further demonstrate the stranglehold the religious wing has on the GOP. I seriously hope he doesn't get the nomination.

thats an interesting statement, do you mean to say that Huckabee isn't qualified? or that he is but he's only there because of the religious right?

I'm not sure this really matters, but I've spent the past 6 years of my life going to school in Arkansas, and the only thing I can remember Huckabee doing as governor is losing weight. Seriously. Oh, and after he lost weight, I think he ran a marathon. I can't say he screwed anything up because I don't really remember him doing anything.

Mike Huckabee wouldn't be my first choice for President, but if he wins the Republican nomination, I will vote for him because of one issue. He supports the Fair Tax proposal and would push for it. It's positive tax reform whose time has come. It's more visionary than anything proposed by the identical triplets or Obama.

I don't think Mike Huckabee would be as weak as Jimmy Carter. Carter set new lows in that category. (And, yes, I voted for Carter in 1976.)

I can get the southern gov/outsider thing, but that's about it.

Jimmy had a good balance between science and faith... nuclear engineer/Baptist. Huck's is not quite in the same league... whacko Baptist/Baptist.

I have known much about Huckabee for many years for his work with Christian ministries in Arkansas.

He isn't good on the big picture, but he is a decent man who is honest, best I know of him.

I would consider him after Paul (and since Paul isn't going to be the nominee) I will be considering him- he is probably best of the rest.

Nobody gets to be governor of a state and one of the leading candidates for the Presidency of the United States without compromising their honesty, values, and beliefs to some degree.

On top of that, how can we afford another 4 years of someone who doesn't see the big picture?

Edit: If he were as honest as you imply, he'd release his sermons and stand by his words. To date, he has adamantly refused to let anyone see them.

Yes, release the sermons. By God, we will find out if he believes in God and His Word. :)
