These last couple of games Mike Harris has been eating into Luther Head's minutes. I wonder if Harris has begun to supplant Head in Adelman's rotation, or is it just a case of a better matchup with a more physical SG/SF? I imagine if we play the Jazz, Harris will get some run, whereas if we play the Suns, Luther will probably play more. Either way, nice to see Mike Harris becoming a solid contributor. He is shooting over 50% too !!! Gotsta love ya some Harris !! DD
If Harris would work on his shot some more we could just trade Luther away Call him and tell Novak to hand out some pointers. Maybe Harris can teach Novak how to defend in exchange.
The problem with RA he's been using Head for many diffrent roles. He is more effective when he is more of a spot up shooter or some short plays for himself. But if he runs the point, his energy is wasted and accuracy becomes bad.
Yeah, I'm glad we added him. He gives us better depth, and is another hustle guy. ... but, we sure do have a lot of shorter guys on our team.
He is a 6'6" 240 pound power SF.....that is plenty tall and big enough. Actually we are not a small team at all...... Yao is tall for his position Scola is average height for his position Tmac is tall for his position Battier is average for his position Rafer is about average for his position. The team is average....in height, and even without Yao.....Deke is tall..... What this team is short on, is drivers, or penetrators..... But give Morey some time...he knows what he is doing. I think Harris is a keeper. DD
Dada.. you are delusional. Luther's minutes were cut into last night, that part you have correct. I'm not sure yet that something wasn't wrong with Luther though. The game before that... Luther started and played 28 minutes. And even the game before that... Luther started and played 28 minutes. Harris was in last night because of size match up issues and Tmac's fouls and possibly injury to Luther. Edit: I do think you are right about keeping Harris though. No one was more disappointed when we waived him at the beginning of the season.
Mike Harris replaced Luther in the Denver game for his first action in a while that is why I was wondering if he is slowly eating into his minutes. DD
They offer completely different skill sets. I would be the first person to bash Luther Head, but he gives us something we need more than what Harris does. Harris is like a Carl Landry-lite. He gets boards, hustles, finishes inside, and does all these things worse than Landry. We haven't seen him attempt a shot so we don't know how that is, but I suspect it's the same--like Landry but a little worse. Luther Head gives us 3pt shooting, dribble penetration, and some additional speed. Granted, everything else he brings to the table--awful ballhandling, awful passing, awful defense, and just overall inconsistency with his head being in and out of the game it seems--makes him one of the worst examples of these kinds of players in the NBA, but nevertheless we got nothing better. All I am asking of Head this year is for him to not choke in the playoffs. We need that bench scoring too much. Make your open threes Luther!
Yes, but then he played last night too......I am just wondering if he is cracking into the rotation at the end of the year. He is a very aggressive player.....who attacks the basket...... Luther can shoot, but his deficiencies...yeck. DD
If that's the case then that's a position we need to strengthen in the offseason. Mike Harris is not good enough to play PF on a fully healthy Rockets team and not good enough to play SF on a fully healthy Rockets team. To be quite frank with you I would rather have Novak playing his minutes as we need Novak's lone skill (shooting) more than we need Harris' (rebounding). Bonzi would be nice, as he's strong, can post up, is a decent defender, good rebounder but more importantly can carry a second unit. Obviously I know we can't re-do the trade, but if I could choose between Harris and Bonzi outright, I would definitely take Bonzi to the playoffs with me.
From what I've seen of Harris, he is NOT a power forward. He may be 6'6", 240 lbs, although I doubt the 240 figure, but he gets abused down there against NBA power forwards defensively. He can't hang with their strength. Harris is a powerfully built small forward that can go to the cup and finish. He needs to work on his jumper and add range and he could be a very good player. However, his perimeter defense is lacking as well as his post defense. He's gotta get better at moving his feet and staying with his man. But, I do like the kid and glad we brought him back.
Luther won't see the court against Utah because he can't guard anyone that the Jazz run out there. Against Phoenix, he'd play. Against the Spurs, I'd rather start Novak or Harris if we're going to match Battier's minutes with Manu.
Harris should help, but objectively he was completely abused by Harpring lastnight and his only 3pter clanked horribly off the board missing everything. I still see Luther getting more clock if they can get him some open 3pt looks.
As horrible as Luther is as a play-maker (I cringe everytime he tries to dish the ball), he brings one precious commodity to the table that few others on the roster offer: ability to score on his own, whether it's penetrating for a layup or shooting off the dribble. Mike Harris is, as mentioned above, a Landry-lite. His main job is rebounding and putbacks. As long as Tmac is penetrating into the paint and drawing doubles, Harris (like Landry) can get his wide open dunks. He's undersized on defense, doesn't have a reliable outside shot, and can't create on his own. He will only see PT when Scolandry is on the bench with foul trouble.
Bonzi doesn't have a jump shot !! I think Harris has a nice mid range jumper, just needs the confidence to take it. DD
I call Mike Harris "Dirty Rice" because he does the dirty work and went to Rice. I hope he continues to get some floor time and keeps improving.
Mike was shooting and making a lot of 3's during shootaround at the Seattle game. I jided him to just make them in the game (he didn't think much about my comment ). He probalby dropped 8 in a row, though. I would bet that will be his off-season regimen to improve his 3 pt accuracy.
Mike Harris's offensive rebound, and then that flush slam in the first half was awesome. The playoffs are more physical, which means more time needed for Harris.
