great thread Baqui99. James saved the Rockets today with his key 4th quarter jumpshots.

Oh please, quit with the "one game ecstacy", the guy has been nails all year. He didn't anything to take away from McGrady. There always has to be someone complaining about something. By the way, newsflash to you, we don't NEED him to shoot this well every night. Using your logic we shouldn't be excited about McGrady's performance since he'll "come back down to earth". Afterall, he shot 52% from the field tonight, his average is 43%. Mike James is nails, he played a key part in Detroit winning a championship. For some reason people have to find a player to knock, and I guess you want to knock Mike James, but the guy has been money in the bank since becoming a Rocket. Maybe he won't have as good a game next game, McGrady may not have a big a game. Bottomline, he deserves props and Mike James wasn't a ball hog.

That's a big misconception. Because a lot of times McGrady brings the ball up the court himself. I doubt that James is going to keep the ball from McGrady if the Rockets need a basket badly. McGrady may have called for the ball, but who knows, maybe James saw a better opportunity. He's the PG, that's his job is to get EVERYBODY involved.

RocketTROLL, why are you being like this? You really need to get your panties out of a bunch. Seriously, the Rockets just won a HUGE game and here your are pointing out the negatives. I bet you're one of those people who always tries to bring people down. Well, it won't work here.

    GO ROCKETS!!!!

So by saying Tmac will "come back down to earth" you're saying that what we saw tonight is NOT what we can expect to see every night. I don't know about you but I EXPECT to see this kind of play from Tmac every single night, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs and this is NOT expecting too much. MJ on the other hand, had a great night. Mad props to him for sure. How can anyone knock on his game tonight? Shoot, if you're hitting your shots like MJ was tonight, shoot all the hell you want. But the difference between he and Tmac is, we can't expect this kind of play every night from him and I think that would be asking too much. I wasn't calling him a hog tonight. But the FACT is, sometimes it's just not falling for him and he keeps launching them and that's when I think he's a hog.

Yeah, James really stepped up for us. It's funny, though, every major shot he hit in that fourth quarter stretch, I was like "NOOOOOO, why are you shooting that?" quickly followed by "YES!" Just like I used to do with Cat and others.

MJ is a shooting guard, let's get that straight! His job is SCORING, he is not much of a passer. But he is an EXCELLENT ball handler, has killer speed/crossover, and the ONLY other player on the team besides T-Mac that can penetrate, or can create his own shot. I have ALWAYS said before that besides McGrady, you want MJ to be the one taking the shots down the stretch. He has done time and time again this season, and has done it in the past with Detroit. He is pure CLUTCH, you betta believe it.

Now, the bottom line really is that JVG clearly would rather have MJ in than Sura towards the end of the game. I think JVG knows that Sura is not really a clutch guy, while MJ seems to relish the pressure and can score from outside OR break down defences by his super quick first step (the quickest I have EVER seen)

MJ's role is what he is doing now, I frankly don't mind at all having him shoot the ball. Now, if he continueously forces shots and is missing them, while he has other open players, or his star teammates, on the court, then I would have a problem with that. But I haven't seen him do that at all so far this season. He doesn't jack up 5 shots in a row ignoring his teammates in the process.

Now if ONLY Padgett can get his shot going and punish Dallas for doubling T-Mac off the PnR;)

rocketKID - it's clear that you are not in college. I am NOT your roommate, and I pity anyone who will have to be yours in the future. You knew my comments were correct and you didn't know what to do, so you lied. It's ok. You're not the first to be embarrassed by me. Take it easy son.

Dude, I've been "riding" Mike James since last season. Check the record son, that's last season when he was with Boston. You haven't watched the guy much if you think he made shots he probably wouldn't make. The guy is a fierce competitor and a gamer who knows his role. He is a huge spark off the bench who in some cases, I believe should start.

Tonight James shot 53%. James shot 44% for the season and is a career 40% shooter. T-Mac shot 52% tonight and shot 43% this season. Newsflash, T-Mac doesn't shoot this well everynight either, but I have no problem with a guy with a hot hand milking it til its gone, and it will, for both players. I guess we'll see if you're still riding T-Mac when he throws up a clunker. I know I will be.

Again, if you expect to see 52% shooting from T-Mac every night, you're trippin. There are just as many nights that he's a hog as MJ. We just expect him to shoot more because he's the man here. Now I'm not saying I want MJ to start jacking it up 20+ times per game, but I trust JVG knows how to run his team better than you.

Oh wow. You're going to compare %'s when one players shoots at LEAST twice as many shots as the other guy a night. Give MJ the numbers shots TMac shoots and see if he still shoots 50 something %.

No one said he wasn't a competitor or a spark off the bench. I simply, and i emphasize SIMPLY said sometimes he takes too many shots, and you take up the role of his momma in defending him. Calm down and quit your b****ing.

RocketKid, stop living in Wonderland. If James was to make bad decisions or jack shots up with no results. You'd be damn skippy that Jeff would sit his butt on the bench (as he did with Barry in the 1st quarter). You let those guys sit and think for a while. Then, you try them out again. But let Jeff do his job. He'll make the adjustments. I don't think that YOU are more demanding (or knowledgeable) than Jeff. Or are you?

So, don't give me this "Sure, he was hitting some shots...but he can't do that every night." Uh, Jeff will make sure he does *do that* every night or he'll sit on the bench.

James is a clutch player. Plain and simple. And if James cools off the next game, we'll look for Barry or Westley to do their thing! It's called team.

I was more pissed off at the dumb turnover that James made at the end (and Wesley's too).

Exactly. James has been on fire the past week so hopefully he can continue to play well for the rest of this series. Even if James isnt as hot in game 2 we can always go with Barry, Sura, or Wesley. As long as two of them are having a decent offensive game (along with T-mac and Yao), then the Rockets will have a good chance to win.

I was just about to post a thread about the same thing, but Baqui beat me to it. Anyhow, James is a savior. In today's game, although Mcgrady was our key, he pretty much kept the game out of the Mavs hands when we were going through a little slump. He has a sweet high arching shot thats hard to defend. I like James, his contributions are going to be key throughout the playoffs for the Rockets. Lets hope he keeps hitting the jumper, floater, and layup.

    Mike f'n James.

    Vinnie!
That's a good comparson. Jumper, floater, and layup (as sonalikumar said). Vinnie was the master at those; crazy freaky shots. :D

Ironically he's just like Maverick. He flies by the seat of his pants. He's dangerous. But I'm glad he's on our side. If he gets out of control we can go with Sura and not hurt anyone's feelings. If he was a starter he'd be a lot more difficult to control.
