What players are out there that we could possibly get with the exception? Are there any positions that are loaded with similar type players, like say back up point guard? I’m especially curious about the centers and small forwards. I think this could possibly effect whom we draft at 15. For instance if we are sure we are not going to be able to get a good big man but are sure we can get a good back-up point guard, maybe we trade Moochie and 15 to move up a couple of spots to assure we get a player like Nene or Stoudamire.

Please don’t take any of these names to hart. I simply used them as examples. I have been watching the NFL draft for years. I have only been following the NBA draft since last year so I’m probably approaching this all wrong. If so, sorry:(

jerome james seams to be the center of choice on the bbs.

also lee nailon is a fa, and would be a nice sf for us.

Anyone think we could convince Rashard to sign the mid-level exception with an impressive draft?

Let's sign Jerome James to back up Ming. Maybe New York will take Cato and Collier for #7 and cap filler. That gives them some bulk up front, including a Western Conference starting center.

I wish I could agree with you thumbs, but even though the Knicks have made some questionable decisions recently, they won't take Cato or Collier for the the 7th pick.
I have been advocating to get James with the MCE so he can backup Ming because of Cato's inconsistancies,Nailon is not a defensive player but he plays hard and can get some points from the 3 spot.

Lee is a defensive liability. Too slow to defend the perimeter and too small to guard the paint. I personally question his desire on defense.

Let's sign Wang Zhizhi with the mid level exception, and go ahead and draft Ming. The Government of China would love us, and Ming would have someone to talk to on the team. Zhizhi can hit the 3, and really isn't too bad of a 3. Even if he is just a back-up, China would love the Rockets for it, and I think Zhizhi can rack up some points given some minutes.

Just a thought, what do you guys think?

Also, I wouldn't do it if we don't draft Ming.

If the Rocks are truly going after Yao, then I second (or third) the motion to make a pitch for Wang Zhi Zhi.

Actually, Mengke Bateer of the Nuggets is also an unrestricted FA in case Cuban unreasonably bids up the price of Wang.
