Past his prime. Way past it. We need to get younger, longer, and more athletic. I'll pass.

Nah, guy is so past his prime. He'll probably sign with anyone for a low amount though.

I always liked Finley's game a lot, but like everyone else is saying: damn he's old.

Hey, if he wants to play for the minimum or close to it, sure. We could probably use him. But we need another impact player, and unless we manage a drastic move at point guard, that impact player is most likely to be a 2/3. And Finley ain't an impact player anymore.

He'd probably be the second coming of Derek Anderson. No thanks.

Unlike Horry, I think Michael Finley has some gas left in the tank. I'd consider him at the vet minimum if he signed on with no demands for minimum playing time.

Too old and not likely wanting to leave the Spurs.

But the biggest and best argument is that the following 9 players have 2008-09 contracts...

Yao - McGrady - Scola - Battier - Alston - Head - Brooks - Francis - Jackson (or trade incoming)

And the following 3 players will likely be signed for 2008-09...

    Mutombo - Landry - 1st Rounder

And if the Team Option is taken for Steve Novak...that's 13 contracts not counting Chuck Hayes and using the full MLE on someone.

Unless a player is a marked upgrade, there's not a whole lot of roster room.

People say NO, but I say yes. I know he is old but we need veterans, especially shooters.

    HA HA HA! Good one.

Seriously though, Finley averaged 10 pts/game and shot decently from long range last season. The guy can get hot and help a team win some games. But he has to understand if he has a steep decline next season that his behind will get splinters from sitting on the bench. At best, he would get 10-15 mins/game and might not play in every game.

He looked good in a few games I saw him play, including the rocket's games.
Only one problem, he's too old and who knows how much he has left.

I always get sick around this time of year when i notice that the teams still playing have much better role players than we do.

Michael Finley is old, getting unatheletic, and rapidly declining but he would be a serious upgrade to our bench.

Damn, I suggested this in the random trade thread yesterday! :D

Oh well, at least we will have someone who have won some big games on the team.

Just curious what's Finley's current contract with Spurs? How much does he earn this season?

I used to like him as he rather clutch and can hit lots of threes. However, he is just too old and if he cannot make his threes, he is useless (like Luther Head).

I think he's unrestricted. Money isn't an issue with him since he's living off the $100MM contract the Mavs gave him a few years ago. Hoopshype has him listed as the 2nd highest paid player in the NBA (at $22MM) in 07/08 behind KG.
