http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090909/wl_nm/us_mexico_hijack MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – An AeroMexico passenger plane was hijacked in the Mexican resort of Cancun on Wednesday and flown to Mexico City's international airport where Transport Minister Juan Molinar said it landed safely. Mexican radio said the plane was carrying 104 passengers. TV images showed Mexican security forces arriving in trucks at Mexico City airport, where operations were suspended. Local newspaper websites said three men earlier seized control of the Boeing 737 plane and threatened to blow it up unless they were allowed to speak to President Felipe Calderon. El Universal daily said the men had not been able to get inside the plane's cockpit.
great, another excuse for my future mother in law to use to make us feel bad for having a destination wedding in playa del carmen... hope things go okay for the passengers...
they're reporting that the passengers were released and they didn't know it was hijacked until the plane landed... i'm guessing that it must be drug related...how sad. yeah our wedding is this summer as well... it is still safe for the tourists as long we don't mess with those drug cartels.
Why is that? Why would cartels want to speak to Calderon? And why would they do something like this to get an audience?
get people out of jail. the problem with drugs and drug cartels seems to be at it's highest point in mexico right now. they're killing police chiefs...in some cases the police are in on the drug dealing...police officers are resigning in fear that they'll be killed. stuff like that. but yeah...maybe they want to talk to calderon to have people released from prison?
I'm not feeling it. It might have been effective if they were able to take over the plane and/or blow it up. But, considering the plane landed and everyone got off, I think it is more benign. If I was a cartel, I would be embarassed to have made demands and then fail to blow up the plane. This was a pretty weak attempt at extortion with very small demands. I'd bet it has more to do with ethnic/national grievance than drugs.
There are no Jets Hijacked in Mexico... everybody go back to their usual Hangout threads... no Jets Hijacked, I say... mainly 'cuz we don't have Jets... That's what SHE said.
sounds like tinman is trying to crash your wedding there will be plenty of single latina women there right? if so he is def gonna be there must have been weird for the passengers not knowing the plane was hijacked but where was the plane originally heading? shouldnt at least one of the passengers realized that something was wrong when they may not have been going in the right direction or the flight was too short/long?
This is the same airline that had flights from Chicago to Buenos Aires, Argentina for $287 roundtrip, taxes included. The route was Chicago-Juarez, Mexico-Buenos Aires.
<br> Idk dude, whenever I'm flying I can't tell where the hell we're going. It all looks the same from that high up...
true but lets say they would have had to flown over the water to get where they were originally supposed to go and now they were only flying over land that would give me a clue
